Six children are identified: Cynthia b. 1795; Martha b. 1796; Gabriella b. 1804; Sophia b. 1806; Georgia Ann b. 1808; and James jr b. 1812. >From our family tradition, this history begins with the Busby's fighting in the American Revolutionary war on the American side. Two brothers, John and Jake Busby, are assumed to have come from France to aid America in their battle with England. John fought with General Lafayette and Jake or James was under General Marion. After the war, the Busby remained in America. It is believed they settled in Virginia. James married Elizabeth Shackelford either in Virginia or Kentucky. They were living in Kentucky on 20 November 1790 when their daughter Martha Nancy Busby was born. Martha married George A Ritter in Kentucky on 28 September 1814. George Ritter was born 10 February 1790 in Maryland. George and Martha Ritter moved from Kentucky to Monroe Co Indiana about 1824. James & Elizabeth (Shackelford) Busby had a son James Busby Jr. James Busby Jr had a son David T Busby (who married three times) David T Busby had a son William A Busby who was Carolyn Earle's grandfather. David T Busby moved between KY and IN According to Carolyn Earle, James Busby sr immigrant ancestor was Matthew Busby who came from Londonderry, Ireland to America in 1600's. I have no proof of this.
