    3. If you think in terms of phonics, I really believe that is how the misspelling of our sir name and lots of others. If you keep in mind that those individuals were, mostly, dealing with a much more limited education than we have now a days, they spelled it the way it sounded to them. In the case of given names, there are still a lot of us who don't use our full given birth name. My great grandfather, who we all knew as Columbus, turned out to be John Columbus Burnett. Even on court documents. Sorry for rambling.
