Hi Sandra, The CD I told you about is a compilation of Buzz's old 45s that were remastered and placed on CD. The albums we made were in the early to mid 1980s and are all out of print. When they are re-released on CDs, I will let you know. I forgot to tell you that Buzz was inducted into the Louisiana Hayride Bluegrass Hall of fame in March of 2003 and I was asked to be there to accept the award for the family. It was very interesting in that Eddie Stubbs, "The Voice of the Friday night Grand Ole Opry," presented me with the award. Eddie Stubbs was one of my former students and the student council president where I was the principal in Gaithersburg, MD. Eddie and I have remained good friends ever since. As a matter of fact three of the Johnson Mountain Boys bluegrass group, one of which was Eddie, were my students at Gaithersburg and they credit me with getting started. I suppose you know that Buzz was considered one of the five best bluegrass mandolin players in the world during the last half century. His achievements are included in a booklet included in the new CD. Keep on picking, you"ll eventually get the hang of it. After awhile the tips of you fingers will develop a protective callous and they want hurt anymore if you practice at least 15 or 20 minutes every day. Cousin Wayne

WOW!! I`m impressed, with you and everyone else there seems like there is a strong gene for music from our Busby ancestors just sorry it missed me{:> Wayne I want to order a CD with you and Buzz on it, will the album you told me about have both of you on it? or would you mind sharing one that has both of you. I was learning how to play the madolin a few years back [I love the madolin] but it was just too hard on my fingers. I`m really glad I asked this question I`ve really enjoyed hearing about everyone and has made me feel like I know you and some of our ancestors better. Leanna, it would be great if your Dad had his DNA done, we believe, but cannot prove that our line is Sampson and Nimrod. My cousin has just ordered the kit to have his DNA tested, it would be interesting to see if your dad and he match. Has anyone come across the name Cumbest or Combess in their Busby research? In 1850, Macon co., Ga. Nimrod is living next to Sampson, and in Nimrod's household is a Catherine Cumbest 25, with children Mahan 3, Maranda 6 and Mary 1. I haven't been able to find her after 1850, is it possible that she was a Busby that married a Cumbest and she remarried? My grandmother was Marianna Cumbest who married Jeff Busby in 1888 in Thomas co., Ga.
James O'Gwin who use to be on the Louisiana Hayride Show is related to the Busby's through Jeremiah Busby who died in Wayne Co, MS. Wanda Busby --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. My gr-grandfather James Meredith Busby b 1860 Fayette Co., Tx sang and played guitar and piano. He also gave music lessons in his later life. We aren't sure about the early part of his life. We have an account of from one of his grand-daughters of him teaching her to sing a hymn called "Meet Mother In The Skies" when her mother died. Delia was very young but remembered it well into her 80's. Hey how come you got some of this talent and it skipped me? {:> Sandra > My father played the "fiddle" and harmonica and had never had music lessons. > Sacred Harp (4-shaped note singing) has been part of my life for years and > was 'handed down' from my grandparents. I have found this in a lot of the Busby's. They played guitars and sing. My granddaddy Busby had a beautiful tenor voice. He could almost sound like others singing with him. When I met some of the Busbee's from my Seaborn's 2nd family I found that they all played and could sing. It skipped me. Marilyn

(She was named for her grandmother, Marilda Zorada Twitchell Busby). My grandfather Michael, Zorada's bro, had a good singing voice. Their sib, William, too. I don't know that they played instruments, too long ago. But my family plays a variety, piano, violin, accordion, wind instruments. Some of my Busby descendant cousins are also musical. I enjoy the exchanges so much. I wish I could make the connection to Sher'od (Sherwood) Busby from SC just after the Revolutionary War. That name has been handed down, so I am sure there is a connection. My father played the "fiddle" and harmonica and had never had music lessons. Sacred Harp (4-shaped note singing) has been part of my life for years and was 'handed down' from my grandparents. So, yes, music and singing have always been a part of my family heritage.
