AOL addresses are bouncing. This is a consequence of RootsWeb changing its IP address on Tuesday. The new address must propagate through all the mail delivery systems used by various Internet Service Providers, so there will have been a gap in delivery under any circumstances. RootsWeb is sometimes considered a spammer because of the large number of e-mails it delivers, and its IP address gets "blacklisted." The staff works with various ISPs to "whitelist" RootsWeb, but it hasn't succeeded in getting everyone on board with the new IP address. This includes AOL as well as a number of other ISPs. To try and keep people on the lists, I have the number of allowable bounces as high as I can. The MyDoom virus is adding to the complications by clogging mail servers, too. Anyone can contact me on [email protected], if they need assistance. Regards, Gaila

Hi all you Busby kin, I have been reading all the info on the board for a long time, but only lurked behind the scene because my Busbys do not seem to be connected with yours. Gotta be somewhere though. The Busbys were on my mother's side and she did not know much info about them, but I can remember visiting a few Busby kin when I was young. My mother studied music at Washington University in St. Louis and taught piano lessons and music theory for many years. She also played a huge pipe organ at church for a long time. I remember when I really was young going with her to practice the organ on Saturdays and sitting close under the bench so I could watch her feet on the pedals. My son also plays in a band in Memphis, Tn., but all by ear. He plays mostly guitars, but is learning different instruments as he can. He did not do anything with his music talent until he graduated high school in 1990. I am so proud he is now even though it is not my kind of music----some kind of rock. My mother's mother was Frances Josephine Buckelew. She was the daughter of Margaret C. Busby and Abner J. Buckelew. This Margaret is my brick wall. In 1860 she is listed in the household of a Jacob Busby and Sarah Green Busby, a couple too young to be her parents. There are several other teenaged siblings also and then 2 small children of Jacob and Sarah. Margaret marries in 1870 and moves to the Birmingham area in Alabama from Pike Co near Montgomery. Her sister, Melissa Elizabeth, marries a Morgan and goes to Oklahoma. Two brothers, Harvey and William H., go to the civil war. In 1850 we have an M.C. and M. E. and other different names(from 1860) in the home of Richard A. Busby in Madison County, near Huntsville. Richard A. and Elizabeth McKay Busby marry in 1836. No more mention of either after 1850. Now this Jacob of the 1860 census I thought might be an older brother at first, but he was born in 1828 quite a few years before Richard and Elizabeth married. The end of the story!!!!!! Now if you are as confused as I am I like you. I have the war records of Harvey that say he was killed in the war, but heard through the internet that he lived with Wm. H. and his wife for awhile. Jacob died in Kentucky during the war. By the way, I did find a few other descendents of the Busby-Buckelew marriage several years ago and have lost contact. None of them had any info. One of the men, Gerald Godfrey, was an organist and choir director in Birmingham. If anyone has any info on these Busbys, I think you can tell I would love to get my hands on it. More later, Meredith

Edwina, Also in Washington Parish, on the 1820 census, was a "Widow Busbee." I think Washington Par. split off from St. Tammany shortly before 1820. Any idea who Widow Busbee is? Is she maybe William's widow? Tracy "Edwina B. Owen" wrote: > Dave, > The only one I have anything on is John b. 1814 in VA or W.VA listed on St. > Tammany Parish LA 1840 and 1850 Census. Hi I had a look online but couldn't see a Busby name for the Cathedral Choir, only the lead singers Payne and Younce Gaila http://www.cathedralquartet.com/gp-page1.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 25, 2004 2:45 AM Subject: (no subject) > Wayne, > Who was the Busby man who at one time sang tenor with a gospel group called > "The Cathedral's"? Will do. Wayne
Gaila, He probably is not singing with them anymore. That was a long time ago and I believe that its really been longer than I would love to admit. I am sure these singers come and go. Marilyn
Thanks Wayne. I really thought that you might have known who that was. By the way when you get the CD finished of all of the Busby Boys, I think that you need to give a lot of us a chance to order one. I would love to buy one. Marilyn
Marilyn, I am not familiar with that group or any Busby who may have sang with them. Wayne
My father, Houston Busby, his father, Johnnie Nelson Busby and must of my grandfather's brothers played the fiddle. Houston plays (evan at age 82) the fiddle, he is a master of the guitar, and plays some mandolin. He was asked by Kenney Baker, Bill Monroe's fiddle player, and Joe Stuart, who at one time played for Flatt and Scruggs, to move to Nashville and work full time with them on the Bluegrass Circuit. I have no musical talent, but I do "buck dance" which for those of you who do not know is the "homegrown" version of clogging in Mississippi. On my mother's side of the family, Mozingos, she had two brothers that played the guitar. Her youngest was in the military and always had a country band. Now other than dancing.......I can't play or even carry a tune. Wanda L Busby --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). My great-aunt, Inda Belle BUSBY Wills, (MI> TX-Houston, Kerrville) played piano by ear. As a kid, she would play any tune I asked her to play. If she didn't know the song, I would hum it for her. She had 2 sisters who couldn't dance or carry a tune! As far as I know, she was the only musically talented person in my BUSBY line. My sister, Linda has written lyrics, nothing published, for years. I think it is a form of creativity for her. And Sandra probably won't brag, but her Granddaughter, has a wonderful voice and could end up being an opera singer. If I sing, people have been known to ask me what I did with the money my Mother gave me for music lessons. I would love to be able to carry a tune, but I don't sing flat....more like I sing sharp. I think Sherwood goes back to William of South Carolina...possible brother or cousin of Benjamin Senior? With a pair of tin ears, I am not musically inclined, but my father was said to have a great voice. And so did one of my sisters, and four female cousins in the Busby line. One of my daughters used to sing at weddings and other gatherings in her younger days. Not only that, she interpreted songs in sign language. No wonder I married a music teacher. Howard
About the musical Busbys: My maternal grandmother, Beulah Busby Thrasher (born in Columbia, SC, died in Bienville Parish, LA), played piano and organ. My mother who played piano, organ, mandolin and guitar also wrote music and poetry and was a gifted artist. ALL of this skipped me but several of my children and grandchildren are musically and artistically gifted. I love the ways the "genes" continue. Hi Wanda, My brother Buzz was on the Hayride at the same time, I think? Also, I believe they were inducted into the Louisiana Bluegrass Hall of Fame at the same time in March of '03. They were not aware that they were cousins. My brother Charles and sister-in-law would know if they were there at the same time. Thanks for letting us know about the connection. Wayne
Do any of you know who the Busby man was, who at one time sang tenor with a gospel group called "The Cathedral's"? I believe he was from Florida? No, I had read that he was from Florida and I don't remember the time frame. Marilyn
