Hi Peg, What portion of South Carolina did your Kissiah (Keziah) Busby, born 1792 live? Do you know if any of them remained in South Carolina? I am a descendant of David Busby (1852-circa. 1877) and Frances Elizabeth Chastain Busby who lived in the Anderson, South Carolina area. David Busby's parents were Benjamin Busby and Mary B. Unknown. I am told that Benjamin Busby was a son of Thomas Busby, Jr. and Nancy Unknown of Newberry County, South Carolina. I understand they migrated here from Virginia. I will appreciate any help. I found some wonderful information via the family trees you mentioned. I'm going to continue to look for information about their emigration from Scotland. Via Worldconnect, I found that Malcolm Downie apparently came in 1818 (approx. 21 years old), but I don't yet have hard evidence of this, plus I wonder who he came with? (I'm assuming he came without his parents, because I have not found Archibald Downie or Euphemia Campbell in any Canadian documents or Ontario cemeteries.) Malcolm's future wife, Isabella Leitch, apparently immigrated in 1819 (approx. 15 years old) on ship Harmony, with her parents John Leitch and Flora Johnston. Flora, her mother, died the same year in Ontario, CAN. Worldconnect info. also indicated that John Lietch was a native of ACHACHOSIN Parish, North Knapdale, Argyllshire, Scotland, and that his daughter, Isabella was born there in 1804. I could not find this parish, but found one spelled ACHADHCHOSEN, apparently a "place" on the estate of Sir Archibald Campbell in North Knapdale. I found a John Leitch on a list of renters for this estate about the time of his daughter's birth in 1804. He was the "son law" of a Ronald Johnston, who was a also farmer on Sir Campbell's estate. I'm thinking this just might be the correct John Leitch, because of the place name, and because he was married to Flora Johnston (whose father very well could be Ronald Johnston, although I have no other evidence of this). If you come across any other information about Malcolm's parents (Archibald Downie & Euphemia Campbell), or Isabella's parents (John Leitch & Flora Johnston) I'd love to know about it. bethanygreg@verizon.net Thank you again!! Hi Glenda, this has been very confusing for me. If i could find a 1870 census it would clear up a lot but so for have been hitting a brick wall. i saw where a john and caroline busby sold their house to a wm busy in 1871 so i thought they would still be in walker co. but i find nothing. i can't say the stagg/staggs is correct but its on the cemetery listing. it shows david andrew busby's father as john but doesn't show mother. i just believe david andrew and louiza are brother and sister and since martha sumner is buried there i think they are kin. my brother says he remembers the name staggs being connected to louiza. but i don't know louiza's full name and it has made it hard to find her. i tried researching andrew david (andy) but i can't find him either in 1870. i am going to keep looking...maybe i'll get lucky. -------------- Original message from busby-request@rootsweb.com: -------------- > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. An 1870 census would clear up a lot but so far I have not been able to find any of my Busby families in Walker Co., AL in the 1870 census. In fact, most of the Busbys I do find in 1870 are a mystery and can't find the ones found in 1870 in other census records. I have looked at those cemetery records before and never noticed the Staggs name. I have also looked up the Stagg family at Ancestry that is on the page before John and Caty Busby in 1850 Walker Co., Al census and if that is suppose to be her parents, there is not a Caroline Stagg listed as their daughter or a Caty as she is listed in 1850. A descendant of Samuel Houston Busby son of John and Caty got information from another relative from a family Bible that Caty/Caroline's name or John Busby's wife was C.C. BUSBY, SR. Passed away March 12, 2008. He was born March 13, 1918 to Joseph and Barbara Busby in Portland, Maine with five brothers and three sisters. He attended parochial schools and was a breaststroke champion and held the state record for decades. He served in WWII in the Seabee Division of the United States Navy. He married Eugenia Ziegler in 1947 and raised three children in Panorama City. He worked for the City of Los Angeles from 1951 to 1980, as an Electrician Foreman. Had always thought John Busby's wife was Caty Caroline Collins and a descendant has the name of C. C. Collins as his wife. First time I had seen the Stagg name. But the Staggs are on the page before John and Caty in the 1850 census of Walker Co.,AL. Martha Busby is listed as Mary Busby in the 1870 census and J. Martha Sumner in 1880 census. She does have a sister named Mary. I have John and Caty in 1850 Walker Co., AL. census and John and Caroline in 1860 Walker Co., AL census (1860 listed as Busley at Ancestry). I am following this family and other Busbys in Walker Co., as John and Caty's son John Matthew Busby married my GGrandfather's sister Nancy Busby. I believe they were cousins and descendants of the family say they were, and I also believe if that is so, that John Busby could be son of William Busby b. 1802 SC and Elizabeth Key b. NC but I have no proof of this! Need some of those male Busby descendants to get DNA tests done. Had found Lucinda Buzbee as sister-in-law in 1880 census with James Sumner family and knew she had to be a sister born after that last census I had found John and Caroline in which was 1860. I am familiar with David Andrew Busby b. 1864 family and have tried to figure out who his parents were. Do you think David Andrew Busby belongs to John and Caty too? Need his death certificate. Since he is buried in same cemetery most likely he is their son. What year did Louiza die? Are her parents listed as John Busby and Carolyn Stage of her death certificate.
