    3. Obviously the name "Miles" was very popular with the Busby/Busbee clan. I have a Miles Busbee of Aiken Co SC who married Sally Johnson. They are listed as the parents of Leroy Busbee , my grandfather, (b. 4/2/1875 in Gainesville SC, d 7/28/1935 in Great Fall, Chester Co, SC m. Rosa McLellan (aka McCullan). Family members have said that Leroy had several brothers and sisters, but I have found no actual documentation. I also have a death certificate for Miles Busbee b. 10/13/1883, parents unknown. Knowing how spelling varies from document to document, I am having trouble "fitting" these folks into any other areas of the family. If you have any info or run across any info on my Miles as you search for your Miles, I would appreciate your sharing. 1. Coy Busby
    2. Hi again, In reviewing my notes that I made from my conversation with my father in law, Vernon B. Busby, Vernon said that Coy and Henry BUSBY were first cousins. Vernon talked about meeting Coy Busby. My father in law was born in 1927, so it is possible that they did meet. I start wondering 1) Did Coy Busby have a brother named Henry? 2) When did Coy Busby move to Arkansas? 3) If Coy's family moved when he was a child, did he make trips back to SC? According to my father in law, his father, Judge Benjamin Busby had a sister named Jessie. Jessie is possibly only a half sister. Jessie 1st married unknown WALLACE in Aiken Co., SC and 2nd married an unknown OUTZ. When Michael Busby mentioned about Tillman Busby being charged with adultery, that rang a bell about one of my Busby family was suppose to be a bigamist, but this isn't proven yet. I have found out that in the 1910 census, Judge Benjamin ( JB) Busby was in the Richmond Co., GA jail. I hope something I say rings a bell for someone, since Judge B. Busby is my brick wall. Thanks again, Karen Busby On Fri, 23 Apr 1999 10:05:46 EDT DicksonMB@aol.com writes: >I have a death certificate of a "Coy Busby" who died in Russellvile, >Pope Co., Arkansas. >He was born in South Carolina, November 19, 1873, died at age 94 on >January 2, 1968. >His father was Tillman Busby and Mother unknown. 3. Would the Tilman Busby who was hung, be the son of Miles Busby? I have a Tilman Busby born in 1840 in Orangeburg South Carlina. I have no other information on him though. He was brother to my husband's ancestor, Miles Busby (the second Miles). I would be interested in knowing if thats the same man. Thanks, Shannon

    2. Shannon, I have always wondered if my Seeborn Busby, born abt. 1815 in SC. was a brother to your Miles. I found an S. Busby, Rachel, William, and 2 other children, it was written so that I don't even remember, but they were in Orangeburg living close to Miles. In fact Seaborn and Rachel named one of their daughters Nancy. Just have always wondered. As to this Tillman: his son Coy Busby was born so the death C. states, 1873, so who knows. Marilyn

    1. SC/GA Busby
    2. Hi Everyone, Since I am having so much trouble with my Judge Benjamin (his name) BUSBY, I decided to try a different approach. Does anyone with SC or GA BUSBY have a Coy BUSBY? If Coy is still alive, he would probably be in his 60's to 80's. In a conversation with my father in law, he can remember Coy BUSBY being a cousin. 2. I have a death certificate of a "Coy Busby" who died in Russellvile, Pope Co., Arkansas. He was born in South Carolina, November 19, 1873, died at age 94 on January 2, 1968. His father was Tillman Busby and Mother unknown. He was a retired school teacher and it does not list his wife's name, but it seems that from the Census I remember her as being named Betty. A son gave this information, H. G. Busby. Marilyn b. Dickson

Gaila I am curious about your Lillian Busby. I have a Leroy Busbee whose father was Miles Busbee of Aiken Co, SC. Leroy was born in Gainesville, SC which I can't find and am wondering if it might have been today's Gainesville, GA. Do you have any further info on Lillian? I wonder if she could be kin to Leroy or Miles?

    1. Re: J.B. Busby
    2. Re: Tillman The surname Tillman can be found in South Carolina as far back as 1770, just about the time the first Busby family moved there. The Edgefield District produced the greatest number of South Carolina governors, among whom was one Benjamin Ryan Tillman. Bonnie could be correct in that there were intermarriages between the Tillman and Busby families. Many Tillman families migrated through the same routes taken by Busby families, that is, through Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and so on. I have found Busby names in some Tillman genealogies, so it is a good idea to check into the Tillman lines if the name shows up in your family history. By the way, Tillman was originally spelled Tilghman. It is sometimes spelled as Tilman, Tilmon and Tilemon. Just like those variations on the Busby spelling. Sorry for going off on this tangent, but thought some of you would like to have this information. Howard

    3. I am looking for some missing links in my family history. Unfortunetly there were many deaths, divorces and remarriages. Three generations of my family were born and raised in the Tulare County, CA area during the 1800-1900 eras. My father was Charles Elton. He has two brothers, Dan and Forest and one sister Jean. His father (my grandfather) was Forest and mother was Pauline Zike. Forest was born in 1885 and had three sisters named for flowers: Pansy, Rose and Violet. I believe he was a half-brother or step-brother to the George Cahoon family as they are listed on the register. I am quite unsure of the Cahoon connection and later down the line a connection by Cahoon marriage to John Menteer, who was their boarder at one time. Any help you can give me would be wonderful. 1. Judge Benjamin Busby
    2. Hi, Judge (his name as according to death cert., marriage lic., and family) Benjamin Busby was born 12 Mar. 1887. His death certificate states he was born in Aiken County, SC while the 1920 census says he was born in Georgia. He was first married, to my knowledge, to Nora ???. This is according according to the 1920 census for Jasper County, SC. Nora was born in Georgia. Shedied in Richmond County, Georgia on 15 November 1920, according to her obituary. Judge and Nora had no children. After Nora's death, Judge moved back to Jasper County, SC and married Alneta McKenzie, daughter of Benjamin Rollin and Nettie Woods McKenzie. This second marriage took place 1 Feb. 1921 in Jasper County, SC. Judge's address at the time is listed as Augusta, Richmond County, GA. according to the marriage license. The couple had 5 children, one who was born after Judge's death. Judge died 23 Mar. 1932, in Tillman, Jassper County, SC. After Judge's death his wife, Alneta, and children lived with Alneta's parents. The only other thing I know about Judge Benjamin Busby is that his parents are listed as John or Jack (the writing is faded) and Eliza Busby according to his death certificate. I do not know if Judge had brothers or sisters, aunts or uncles. I hope that someone might be able to offer some help. 3. Hello Jay and list, Barbara has AIS indexing on the Busby page, that might help you. Re the name Tilman (Tillman) My request is a little out of the ordinary. The name Tilman shows up in a Busby collateral line for me. It is like a pointer telling that Tempie Howard was a Busby. Can every one with an ancestor with the nameTilman write in and tell the list where the name exists in their Busby line? For instance if we find out that Silas Tilman's father was the son of Elisha, it might be able to point us to other of his children. I think Tilman will be a family name of someone's maternal line. Sorry my idea isn't clearer, but I will start off: Tilman Howard, Houston Co, Ga born circa1850 (thought to be grandson of Tempestia Busby Howard) ____________________________________________________________________________ I Have a Benjamin Tilman Busby born on Feb 3 1897 in Talala Oklahoma.
