Good Morning, Busby list. I decided to re-subscribe after a long absence. I lost a great deal of my Busby research after a computer crash some time back and have decided now to try and continue with the data I have left. A lot I know by heart. Working by lap top is much slower to me but hopefully I'll have the desk top fixed soon. This posting may be a little lengthy but 'm still trying to sort out the Matthew and Robert Busbys from VA & KY. My Matthew Busby was married to Saluda Tinsley in 1803 in Amherst Co, VA. Later moved his family to Adair Co KY ca 1815. Did he go straight to Adair Co after leaving VA or was he one of several Matthew/Mathew Busby(s) living in other KY counties until about 1815? Was he the Mathew Busby whose parents were John Busby and Margaret Patterson? Mr. Harry E. Rice of Washington DC, wrote, "BUSBY FAMILY GENEALOGY," detailing the family of John and Margaret. He wrote that their son, Matthew Busbey, died in VA and had at least one child, George, located in Marion, OH. If this is true, then my Matthew is not the s/o John and Margaret. I found a Matthew Busby, born ca 1818 KY residing in 1870 in Ironton, Lawrence Co, OH with a son named George, age 18. Could this be the Matthew that Mr. Rice referred to? Was this Matthew actually the son of John & Margaret? John Busby supposedly came to America with brothers James, Robert & William. They fought in the Rev War. There was a Robert Busby, born ca 1759, living in Adair Co KY in 1834 who was receiving a pension for his service to VA in that war. Was this John Busby's brother? Was this my Matthew's uncle living near him in Adair Co? Supposedly Robert's daughter, Mary W. P. Busby, married Lewis Harmon in Adair Co in 1826. This Robert had a brother named James who lived in Macoupin or Morgan Co Illinois in 1839 and Robert supposedly was living with him in 1839. In 1840, Lewis Harmon (his supposed son-in-law) was living in Macoupin County and that census shows a Robert Busby living in his home. Robert is thought to have died after 1840 in Macoupin Co. Mary W P Busby Harmon probably had died prior to that. Apparently, there was more than one Lewis Harmon in KY, so again it's difficult to know just which Lewis this was. One Matthew/Mathew Busby I found was listed in, "THE BATTLE OF THE THAMES," in which many Kentuckians defeated the British, French and Indians in 1813. He was shown as being part of Throckmorton's Company. Which Matthew Busby was he? When my Matthew died ca 1843 in Adair Co KY, some of the names listed in his papers for the distribution of his estate were Jordan Owen, John Massie/Massey, Chapman Dohoney, William Hardwick, Basil A Wheat, Phillip Winfrey and John Guy. I'm familiar with all except Owen, Massie, Dohoney and Wheat. Can anyone help me identify these 4 men and how they were connected to Matthew? If all of this is as confusing to the list as it is to me, then I've done my job. Any and all help would be appreciated. Paula

Hello Busby Listers, I resub'ed to the List to let you all know I have discovered another Busby and Owen connection. If anyone is interested I can send the info to them. This time the connection is thru Susan OWEN and William W. BUSBY. Susan Owen daughter of Benjamin Owen was born 10/30/1831 in Pike Co, GA & died 6/16/1906 in Paulding Co GA. She married WILLAIM WESLEY BUSBY 12/18/1851 in Georgia. He was born 6/11/1829 in Georgia & died 12/29/1870 in Paulding Co, GA. They had children: Martha A. 11/1852-1932. Mary E. 7/19/1855 Elizabeth 1858 William Albert 4/1863-1932 James H. 1866-1884 Joshua Elias 2/15/1867-aft. 1959. Joseph Benjamin2/15/1867-3/31/1959. Susan Vianna 10/20/1870-1/8/1914. I have no information on William Wesley Busby's parents or siblings. The above Busby's have children which I did not include but have them listed in my Owen Tree. Some years ago, I was researching Sarah Ann Owen and Nathan Walker Busby of Robertson Co TX, I have found most of that line. These Busby & Owen family's were mainly in Georgia, Paulding Co. Are they your's? Wanda wandaharbert@charter.net

I am a gggrandson of Milack, ggrandson of Burrell Busby. My information shows a line from my mother back through Burrell, Milack (Matilda Bell), Micajah-Cager (Bodicy Barnes), Needham (Mary Ellisor), Nathaniel (Charity Haines), to Thomas Busby. I do not have corroboration on any other spouses. I have not yet been able to determine WHICH Thomas Busby this connects to. I understand there were several Thomas Busby's. I would very much appreciate any further information or corroborating information on this line, and will gladly share what I have. Thank you. I am having a lot of trouble with my gg grandfather and his father. My great grandfather is Thomas Green Busby, he was born in Dekalb county Alabama on Sept. 2, 1890. He was shot and killed on his front porch in Lebanon, Alabama on July 18, 1942. I have his death certificate and it says that his parents names are James Busby and Mary Keith. I have the 1930 census showing that his mother Mary was living with him and Margaret at that time. I also know that she was still living with them when he died. On the 1910 census Thomas is living with his mother Mary Busby and his siblings Martha E, Zadie M, and Charles M, Mary is down as being married at this time but no husband is living with her. On the 1900 census Thomas G Busby is living with the family of Elisha Lockey(spelling of last name?), it says he is their adopted son. I am not sure if Tom was the oldest child of James and Mary Busby because I saw on another person family tree that their was a son born in 1889 named John, but I don't know if accurate. I believe that the James M Busby and Mary Keel Ford who married on May 22, 1887, are the correct parents because I know that Thomas had a half brother named Charles Ford who also lived in Lebanon, Alabama. I also believe that mary's name was Keef instead of Keith, the person just misunderstood my great grandmother when she gave them the name and that is how Keith was put on his death certificate. I just have no idea what happened to James after his last child was born abt 1898, or why Thomas was adopted in 1900 then with his mother again in 1910. If anyone can help me with this mistery I would really appreciate it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
