    1. Zachariah BUSBY (1795-1870)
    2. Dear Ray and Fellow Researchers, First I wish to thank the List "Keepers" for a great job that they are doing and also the response from other researchers. Please enlighten me further on my GGGrandfather and his name. I find in many places his name being John Zachariah BUSBY but I have not found the name John in direct connection with Zachariah (1795-1870, Mobile Co., AL. All documents that I have seen, eg: 1850 Census, Jasper Co., MS, pg. 58, dw# 362, fm# 382 1860 Census, Mobile Co., AL, pg. 42, dw# 346, fm# 275 enumerated with Sarah (STREET) and corresponding children, show his name to be Zachariah. The marriage license of his daughter, Matha Ann Caroline BUSBY (1837-1926), recorded in Mobile Co., AL , as William LANE to Caroline BUSBEE, 27 Jan 1863, bonded by William LANE and Zachariah BUSBEE. (both signed with "X"). The death certificate of Martha Ann Caroline LANE, State of AL, Mobile Co., file# 21931, dated 25 Sept 1926, gives her fathers name as Zacharia BUSBY and mothers name as Sarah STREET.(cert. courtesy of Ruth Broadus TUITE, Mobile) 1850 Agriculture Census, Jasper Co., MS, pg. 727, line 11, gives his name as Zachariah. I am not saying that his name is not John Zachariah but I have not seen this in any records except family genealogical reports. Where did it come from? In the early 1980s I corresponded and visited with a cousin, James H. CREEL of Eight Mile, AL, who stated in one of his letters, " I do know that he {Zachariah} was a "hard-shell" (Baptist) minister, and insisted on good treatment of his negroes even before the Emancipation Act. I met a couple, George and Eliza JACKSON, when I was just a small boy,and they told me they were born during the last years of the Civil War, on the plantation where my great-grandfather BUSBY was overseer. They told me that the farm was situated here in Mobile County in an area lying south of Eight Mile Creek, west of U.S.Highway 45, east of Wolf Ridge Hill, and north of Three Mile Creek. This would encompass areas now known as Toulminville, Trinity Gardens, parts of Crichton and parts of Whistler. I even know the location of the overseer's home and the location of the church of the church where he ministered." Alas, I did not find out the location of either. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!! Michael Lee Busby 3237 Six Foot Road Ohatchee, AL 36271-7278 mailto:MBusby3237@aol.com

    3. Glenda, I am looking for a Rebecca Busby who was the 2nd wife of a William W. Groover, born 1809 in Ga. His first wife was an Elizabeth Bird Heard, born 1813 in Ga. She had a sister, Sarah Fitzpatrick Heard, born 1810 in unknown location who married a Sterling Sims. Sarah and Sterling came to central Tx (the Freestone Co., Tx area) and I was told founded the town of Simsboro, Tx. Sarah died in 1865 and is buried in Cotton Gin Cemetery in Cotton Gin, Tx, just down the road from Simsboro. I thought it a little odd that the names of Busby and Sims are connected to your family line and also to mine. Do you think that Eveline Sims and Sterling Sims could be somehow related? Just thought I would ask. Thanks, Paula Dunklin DIZZY24322@aol.com wrote: > Karen, > I'm forwarding your info onto my cousin,Shirley Lewis who knows more of our > family than I do. > My greatgrandfather,John Busby is buried at Grant Mountain cemetery in > Grant Mountain Alabama along with his first wife,Eveline Sims.My great > grandmother was Hannah Surratt, his second wife, who is buried at Towncreek > cemetery in Chavies,Alabama. > Let me know if you hear from Shirley and what she came up with > Please? Thanks! > Glenda > > ==== BUSBY Mailing List ==== > Busby Family Homepage: > http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~busby/index.htm > Listowner: Barbara Peddicord mailto:nashoba@cdsnet.net

    1. Grace Busby or Grace Cotton
    2. Can anyone help with this brick wall. John Barker (son of Captain John Barker and Letitia ?) married Grace ? in 1680 and had the following children: Josiah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah, John and Grace. Was his wife's maiden name Busby? Some say it was Busby and some say it was Cotton. So far I have found no proof on either. The Barkers, Busbys and Cottens lived within a stone's throw of each other in Surry County, Virginia. Do hope some one can help me with this. Many thanks, Ellenor Barker

    1. Rebecca BUSBY m. William GROOVER
    2. Tom Dunklin
    3. Still seeking information about a Rebecca Busby (or various spellings thereof) who married William W. Groover, (born 1809) sometime after 1852. William's first wife, Elizabeth Bird Heard Groover (born 1813), died in May, 1852 in Simsboro, Texas. Unknown whether he returned to his hometown of Grooverville, Thomas County, Ga. to marry Rebecca or if he met and married her in Tx. They had at least one child, a daughter named Martha Kyle "Mattie" Groover in 1855. Sometime after that year, William married a 3rd time to my unknown GG grandmother Banks. He died in 1877. I need to find a Busby researcher who has data identifying William's 3rd wife or anything that could lead me to her name and place of marriage & birth. I am unable to research the Banks family until I can identify her and my gg (unknown first name) grandfather Banks. I am assuming Busby would be her maiden name but there might be a chance she had been married to a Busby before marrying William, considering he was in his mid 40's by then. Any help would be appreciated. Paula Dunklin

    1. Busby/Buzby/Buzba, etc. Shelby County, AL
    2. I just recently found my ancestors in the Shelby County, AL marriage records under the name of BUZBA. I thought I had covered every possible spelling of Busby, including ending in "ey", "ee" and "ie" - now I see that I must also add "ba" and "bay". If anyone is working on Busbys in Shelby County, AL - I am working on John A. Busby/Buzby who married Rebecca Jones 15 Oct 1840 in Shelby Co, AL. There is a possibility that this John A. Buzby was born in TN. Children of John A. and Rebecca are believed to be: Kissiah (aka Kesiah, Keziah, Kezziah) - Female - born abt 1842 Minerva born abt 1844 Mandred K. F. (male, believe he is buried at A1 Methodist Church Cemetery in Weldon, Union Parish, LA) born abt 1845 Louisa M.(aka Louiza, Loweeza) - born abt 1847 (exact DOB 07 Feb 1848) buried at A1 Methodist Church Cemetery in Weldon, Union Parish, LA Rebecca born abt 1850 Mary born abt. 1851 Martha born abt 1853 If you are familiar with this family please contact me.
