The Milton name is also in my line. I would also be interested in hearing where the name originated.
Dottie, I am unable to place or trace my middle name of Milton other that to my father and grandfather. The post of John Milton Buzby is interesting in that my father was John Milton Busby and I have been unable to find any family reason for the Milton as a name in his family lines. John Milton Buzby have you been able to make a family tie to the name of "Milton". Dottie
Since you are still in the New York area, it is a sure bet that your ancestors came through Ellis Island. I am including the link. Remember to keep posting inquiries to the site. I am sure something will turn up. Did you forget to include the Ellis Island Link? I am in Upstate New York (Rochester area )and all my Buzbys were from Pennsylvania. Thanks, Lea
I am searching for information about John W. Busby who settled in Ellis County, Texas around the Greathouse and/or Auburn and Ozro areas in the early 1850's. Family legend has it that he came to Texas from Kentucky. I have been unable to find any information to verify or dispute this story. The information I have been able to find on him is as follows: John died in Ellis Co. in 1858 leaving his wife Mary, who, according to the 1860 Ellis Co. census, was born in Georgia, and 4 children. On the 1860 census, the children are listed as W.(or S.) I., male age 18 born in S.C. abt 1842; J.(James) H., male age 15 and E.L.M.(Martha?), female age 15, both born in Georgia abt 1845; R. (Robert) D., male age 12 born in Mississippi abt 1848; and S.M. (Martha?), female age 6 born in Texas abt 1854. Mary Busby died in Ellis Co. in 1865. Robert D. married Sarah Elizabeth Chewning in 1865 and he was killed around 1875, presumably over a land dispute. He and S.E. had 3 children--Dealtha Busby Mitchell, Josephine Morris, and Robert Dolphin (or Dolphus) "Bud" Busby. If anyone has any information on this line of Busbys, please let me know. I've hit a lot of brick walls. Thanks, Derelys Presley derelysp@getus.com

I need some sort of documented proof that Matthew and Saluda were the parents of Matilda (Rebecca may have been her first or middle name) Busby, born abt. 1820 in Adair Co, Ky. Matthew Busby is listed as her father on her marriage record to Martin W. Banks in 1841 Adair Co, Ky; she is shown living in the Mercer Co, Ky home of Milton Busby in 1850 along with Milton's brother Edward; she moved to Tx with Milton and perhaps other Busby family abt. 1850-1851 and settled in Freestone Co, Tx; and she had a grandchild named Saluda A. born in Texas, 1859-1860 to Mary Margaret Banks Manning and Reuben Manning. I can not find one Busby researcher who has her listed as Matthew & Saluda's child. There were no birth records kept back then, and while her father's name is shown on her marriage record, there is apparently no name of the mother listed. When did Saluda die? Where is she buried? Can anyone tell me about the history of Matthew Busby and his family after they came to Ky from VA?
