    3. Thanks for the information about the Busby cemetery, and the book. I don't recognize any of the names in your family. But who knows? There were a bunch of Busbee's in my family. There might be a connection somewhere there. My family (at least the two brothers who moved to Florida) use the "bee" at the end of their names. I've always assumed the other siblings did, too. 3. I am not a serious researcher, but I enjoy reading about the various Busby families on the list. Yours is the first reference I have seen to my family. My father, Morris Busby, was from around Goodsprings Al. He had three brothers and one sister, all deceased. My grandfather, Elias Dempson Busby, was the country doctor in that part of the world. You might want to look at "Dixie's Diverse Destiny", written by Margery Thompson Lockhart, one of my distant cousins. It has a good run down of the Busbys of Walker county. There are many Busby families living in and around Goodsprings, Parrish and Jasper, all related. There is also a very interesting Busby family cemetery which dates back to before the civil war, and the cemetery in Goodsprings is also a good place for Busby researchers. It is filled with Busbys. Good luck. Morris D. Busby SBusby4523@aol.com wrote: > I AM LOOKING FOR BUSBY'S FROM OR AROUND WALKER CO. 3. I am looking for Busbee's around Covington County (Florala and Andalusia) Alabama. Specifically for the parents of Thomas Calvin Busbee, and Andrew Jackson Busbee. The information I have is sketchy. The name is Jeff Busbee, however the Bible page I saw showed a first name beginning with "W" and ending with what looked like a "g". The rest was badly faded. His wife's name is Sarah (Rhodes) Busbee. I was told that Jeff Busbee committed suicide and is buried in either New Hope Cemetery or North Creek Cemetery. His death would have occurred before my grandparents (T. Calvin Busbee and Cynthia Dorsey Busbee) moved to Winter Garden, Florida in 1916. Jeff and Sarah would have been married 18 May 1866. But I do not have any other information. Tracing my Dad's side of the family was a whole lot easier.(*_*) But I seem to be stuck at my great grandparents. Is anyone working on this line? Thanks Cindy Granke

    2. Cindy, My Busby family is from DeKalb and Jackson county Alabama.Your Andrew Jackson Busby, was she Sarah McPherson? If so,your on my line. Andrew Jackson's dad was John Busby, his mother was Eveline Sims,my step grandmother. Both are buried in Grant Alabama at Grant Mountain cemetery there.I did meet some of Eveline's family from church there one year, they told me there is a marker on their graves, that they are buried by a wall in the cemetery.I never have been there yet. I have a cousin who is willing to go with me to find their grave when I do go back there again.I live in Oklahoma. Do you have the names for Andrews brothers and sisters?I have their names,if you want to exchange info. Yours sounds like it could possibly be my line I'm looking for.Let me know, okay? Thanks! 3. Hi, My ancestor is Isaac Busby of Bath Co., KY he was b. May of 1796. he married Lucy England. They had a son Alfred S. Busby who married Elizabeth Webb ( I believe Eliz. may have been her middle name) Could some one please clarify if I am reading this article correctly Matthew's son James was the father of Isaac? I would love to hear from any other folk researching this family. I have found some of these people in the census in Bath Co. Does any one know where in Ireland Matthew came from or when? 3. Linda, Merry Christmas! I'm sure everyone appreciates this email. This is the kind that give searchers breakthroughs. I have "spoke" to you in the past. I can't hardly believe that there isn't some connection to our families. As you know, I live at Linton. I have a digital camera and will be glad to email you any cemetery markers I can find. My gift to you. I did recently find that my Busby's came first to Owen County, Indiana and then went back to Kentucky. Then, of course, some made a second trip to Indiana and stayed. This does make it more difficult to trace, since some of the children were born in different states. This is probably one of the biggest obstacles researchers face along with curiosity. 3. Posting to the BUSBY list, Huntingdon list, Lancs list and English Fens list for interested parties...... I have read with interest the stories about Busby's on the BUSBY list. Here is a transcription from The Wakefield (Nebr.) Republican, Thurs. Jan 14, 1982, entitled "Founding Families - The Family of Thomas Busby Sr." Thomas Busby Sr., was born at Stow near Humbolten Huntingdonshire England Aug. 24, 1828 and died July 25, 1918. Mary (KNIGHT) Busby was born at Newton, Huntingdonshire England on Jan. 16, 1837 and died at Wakefield April 1, 1923. They were married and left for America, along with his brother Jonathan, in 1853. They came to Illinois and farmed for a year or two, and because of drought decided to move. They moved to Arcadia, Wisconsin to a farm where most of their children were born and grew up. In 1879, Thomas BUSBY Sr. and a friend, J. F. ALEXANDER came to Nebraska looking for land. They first went up the Platte Valley but did not find anything they liked and on the way home, they headed for Sioux City, IA. Mr. Busby bought a farm a couple of miles from LaPorte, Nebr., a little town where they thought the railroad would come through, but for some reason the railroad to LaPorte wasn't completed and was later routed through what is now Wakefield. The farm was 5 1/2 miles from Wakefield. Mr. Busby bought his farm for $4.50 per acre. Mr. Alexander bought a neighboring farm for $3.75 per acre. The Busby's did not move to the farm until 1883, but John and Thomas came out and broke the prairie. John then went back to Wisconsin to live. The Busby and Alexander families drove 100 head of cattle from Wisconsin to Wakefield during the summer of 1883. It took them most of the summer. The Busbys had a large family of 11 children. Mark and Andrew died as infants. The others were: Thomas Jr., John (who remained in Wisconsin), Will, Oliver, Florence, Mary, Emma, Lillie, and Charles. Thomas Jr. married Welsh immigrant, Elizabeth FURLONG (born in Cosheston 1884) in 1906 and bought a farm about 5 miles NW of Wakefiled, where he planted a large grove of evergreens. Thomas is credited with bringing a shoe box full of pine seedlings from Wisconsin to Nebraska. The Busbys were also well known for keeping bees. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- If anyone would like more details about this Busby family, who they all married, children, etc., please contact me in email. I also have two more generations of ancestors for Thomas BUSBY Sr. in Huntingdonshire and Oxford, plus many generations from Elizabeth FURLONG in Wales. Busby of Carrolton was born on a farm in Carroll County April 3, 1873, and is the oldest son of James M. and Lena Busby. He was educated in the common schools of the county and state university at Columbia, and was admitted to the bar at Carrollton July 19, 1894. He has built up a large and lucrative practice in the trial and appellate courts of the state, and is the senior member of the law firm of Busby and Withers. On April 5, 1898, Senator Busby was elected to the office of mayor of Carrollton, in which capacity he served two terms. He succeeded during his two terms as mayor in having the city vote bonds for $50,000 with which to pave the streets and construct one of the best sewer systems in the state. At the general election in 1910 he was elected state senator from the eighth senatorial district, composed of the counties of Carroll, Ray, Caldwell and Daviess, and was a member of the forty-sixth and forty-seventh general assemblies. As a member of the senate he succeeded in having enacted into law more important measures than any other member of either house. He was the author of the bill creating the Public Utilities Commission, which is the most important measure enacted by the Missouri Legislature in recent years. He was also the author of the anti-loan shark law, the anti-single tax constitutional amendment submitted by the Legislature to be voted on at the next general election, and also a bill appropriating $10,000 for the erection of a statue of General Shields on the Courthouse Square at Carrollton. Senator busby married Miss Mayme Devlin, daughter of Joseph H. Devlin, and they have two sons, William G., Jr., and Joseph Devlin."
