Dottie, I am sorry, I don't have anything on Alabama Busby's. Can you find them in the next census? Also, the Bureau of Land Management, has land records for Alabama online. I would look up Benjamin there and see what you could find. > Gaila: what was the place of Benjamin Busby's death? Also do you have any > additional information on Susannah? My gr gr grandfather died shortly after > my gr grandfather's birth in 1812. Hi Benjamin will was proved in Lexington Co, I believe. The only children that were named in the will were Benjamin Jr, Miles and Reese. No daughters were mentioned. That means the others may have already received their portions. My Reese was born between 1775-1785, according to the census. Benjamin Sr was supposed to be fairly ancient, so if Susannah was born in 1802, she may have been a granddaughter or great neice. I have never seen a list of all of Benjamin Sr's children. Looking at the census, there are quite a few Busbys in this immediate area. Wish I could find a Bible record! Gaila
Gaila: In 1809 census for Madison Co.,AL thaere is a Benjamin Busby with no males under 21, 2 males over 21, 3 females under 21 and 1 female over 21. Any clues as to who he is and his wife name. The 3 females under 21 could fit my Susannah Busby born 1082/03 . Dottie
Gaila: what was the place of Benjamin Busby's death? Also do you have any additional information on Susannah? My gr gr grandfather died shortly after my gr grandfather's birth in 1812. My gr grandfather's sister was named Susannah Busby and was born about 1802 in SC. Could she have been a child of Benjamin and Susannah? She married James Agnew in Washington Co.,AL in 1826 and then they moved to Lauderdale Co.,MS and lived briefly in Clarke Co.,MS. Just wondering and searching - Dottie
Hello I know from my records, that almost any spelling that would be said Busby would be related to this clan. Spelling as we know it was not standardized until the 1850's or so. At this time, many didn't read or write. Howard, thanks for that reminder about William Reese. As that Benjamin Busby is his father, do you believe as the paper said, he as over 100 years old? Does anyone have any idea of the relationship between Nathaniel and Charity Busby of Fairfield County and Benjamin and Susannah Busby of Lexingtom/Orangeburgh Co, SC. Nathaniel died about 1809 and Benjamin died in 1815. If you think in terms of phonics, I really believe that is how the misspelling of our sir name and lots of others. If you keep in mind that those individuals were, mostly, dealing with a much more limited education than we have now a days, they spelled it the way it sounded to them. In the case of given names, there are still a lot of us who don't use our full given birth name. My great grandfather, who we all knew as Columbus, turned out to be John Columbus Burnett. Even on court documents. Sorry for rambling. Well as we are all finding out, the majority of our "clan" didn't stay in one place. The time line is right for "my" James but, he would of had to eventually settled in Kentucky, for a while :) Thanks in advance. The will of Benjamin Busby had a long probation period in which several purchases were made by various relatives and neighbors of Benjamin's. In the main part of the will, Benjamin mentions a son named Reese as a heir, but subsequent entries related to the will show a Wm Reese Buzbee as the purchaser of "1 lot of short corn" for $5. HI James is the son of William R., He would have been born in South Carolina and I think he came out with his parents, to Bibb County. Allen and Inman are also the sons of William Reese and Elizabeth is Jame's widow. The second William R is James son, I believe. This William R was a Captain in the CW. Jacob Foreman married one of James daughters: Elizabeth and Middleton McDonald may have married into this family too. William Reese, Snr didn't leave a will but we have been able to determine his family from land deeds, while the family was selling land. I believe those deeds have been posted earlier. Sandra and I were lucky to have found the deeds, because they give us most of William Reese's children and that includes two daughters Charity Busby Schofield and Lillian Busby Johnson, who are our 3rd gr grandmothers. We believe this William Reese was the Reese named in an 1815 will of Benjamin Busby. But we haven't got absolute proof of this. Seems likely, as it is an unusual name.
