Who's minding the store? I appreciate the fact that during the holidays we all wanted to thank a wish others well, this site was designed for us to help ourselves and others research. The last email I received was attached to a query I had sent. This is neither appropriate or allowed. Hi, Carla, Pasted below is e-mail which shows most recent information about my John Busby. ******** Subj: Re: PML Search Result matching John AND (Wheeler OR Wheelor) Meredith Date: 01/13/2000 12:22:28 PM Pacific Standard Time From: genehanson@prodigy.net (Gene) To: FSkeels@aol.com Hi Patsy, I got a copy of your email to the BUSBY-L mailing list as a result of my entry in the PML search for John Wheeler Meredith. Elizabeth Busby/Busbey is my 4th great grandmother. > I am looking for the family of my 3d-great-grandmother, >Elizabeth Busbey, who was married in Hampshire Co., >WVA to John Wheeler Meredith on 18 Apr 1793. I have >indications that she is the daughter of Rev. Elijah Busbey >and Mary E. Hite, but no proof. I have her parents as John Busby and Margaret Patterson. My sources seem to bear this out although it's not quite "proof:" < The Busbeys in America are descendents of the Busbeys of Staffordshire and Yorkshire, England. John Busby was born in County Antrim, Ireland about 1747 and in 1765 married Margaret Patterson. In Jan 1776, soon after the birth of their first child, they emigrated to Virginia. with them went his 3 brothers, James, Robert, and William. All 4 of the brothers served in the Revolutionary War in the Virginia Line. James, Robert, and William later received pensions. the children of John and Margaret were: elizabeth, Matthew, Samuel, John, Benjamin, and Hamilton. ... [Copied 18 Feb 1963 from "Busby Family Genealogy" by Harry E. Rice, Washington, DC; appearing on CD-ROM produced by United Ancestries.] John sold 9 pieces of land in Hampshire County, VA between 1799 and 180?. One sale was witnessed by John W. Meredith and John Busby Jr. The 1810 Federal Census for Hampshire County, VA listed a John Busbey as head of household consisting of 4 males and 1 female. His will was written 15 Mar 1808 and probated 19 Nov 1810. He left a widow Margaret and seven children: Elizabeth Meredith; to William, a lot in Romney; to matthew, $20; to John, $1; to Samuel, land; Benjamin and Hamilton, minors. Executors were Samuel Busbey, John Candy, Daniel Carmichael. Witnesses were Adam Brown, John and Joseph Martin.> I'm curious as to what info you may have on John Wheeler's parentage. I have stopped his line because I have had two different persons named as his father. I have yet to find any info to support either one. I have a web site but I haven't updated it yet with the above Busby data. If you'd care to check it out, it's address is: http://pages.prodigy.net/genehanson/dye/d0/i0000318.htm#i317 That will get you to where John Wheeler and Elizabeth is mentioned. Gene *************** Carla, he wrote back and amended his emigration date for John to 1766. This data he gave me fits very solidly with the data I have on Miami Co., OH, Busbys, so I am quite convinced that the above John Busby is my ancestor. I really can't see a match with your John Busby UNLESS my John emigrated sooner than Gene Hanson's estimated date of 1766 and then there was a move TO Hampshire Co., VA (now WVA). Please let me know if you uncover any clues that may point to this possibility. Fun talking to you last night. Patsy

Dear Patsy, You mentioned you are a descendant of John Busby, of Hampshire Co., VA. Could you please tell me - what time-frame? I have searched for a very elusive John Busby (haven't we all?) for a very long time. My John Busby shows up in Baltimore Co., MD about 1757. I have reason to believe he and his family might have been from VA. Some of the family surnames are; Price, Kemp, Gist, Skipper. If any of these names fit with your John Busby...please contact me. Thanks! Carla Busby
Thank you so much Patsy.Tracy
I live in Douglas County, Oregon. I'll check on Talitha Cuma Busby when I go to Douglas County Genealogy Society next. Patsy Skeels Descendant of John Busby of Hampshire Co., VA

To all: I recently found the following gravesites in my research for BUSBY in Tulare Co., CA. I have been trying to make a connection in my family with the TX Busby, Busbee and Buzbee, but have been unsuccessful. Thought these might be useful to those with Texas lines. HOME OF PEACE CEMETERY, was established in 1908 and is known for the number of ornate monuments it contains. It is located on East Olive Street, near Porterville Cemetery and Hillcrest Cemetery in Tulare Co, CA. I have a question about the location of some of my BUSBY ancestors. John BUSBY & Mary HUCKVALE had 8 children. Their family is listed in the IGI online Batch number C092431 and all the birth places are listed as Particular Baptist, Chipping Norton, Oxford. There is also an Ancestral File online showing this family, and the children are shown as born in slightly different places: William & John - Priority Farm, Over Norton, Oxford Samuel, Richard, Mark, Jonathan - Over Norton, Oxford Mary & Thomas - Dunthrop, Heythrop, Oxford My question is, if this were your family tree, which entries would you keep in your data base? Would you list the church record Particular Baptist, Chipping Norton as their birth place, or would you list the varied birth places found in the Ancestral file above. Also, Is Over Norton a completely different place than Chipping Norton? If so, I guess they went to the Baptist church in one town and lived in another? Also, where is Dunthrop, Heythrop in relation to these other two places? Thanks in advance, Lonna PS: If anyone on this list is from this same line of BUSBYs, you might be interested in the large Ancestral File I found online which takes the HUCKVALE's back many generations from Mary, into the 1500's.:)
I forgot to mention that Leonella Bathene BUSBY was born in Pendleton, Umatilla, Oregon, Abt. Jan. 23, 1909. Her parents were Edwin Day BUSBY and Ida Ella McCANLESS. If your are descendant of Edwin Day BUSBY or any of his siblings, please contact me. Lonna
I have found the following information in the IGI Records online and I would like to verify it please. Film #177884, page 272 - Jonathan BUSBY b. Mar 11, 1831, Stowe, Huntingdon, England. His birth was also recorded in batch number C065811 at Baptist, Spaldwick, Huntingdon. This man was my gr grandfather's brother, who emigrated to America with Thomas and his wife, Mary KNIGHT in 1853. They settled in Arcadia, Wisconsin. Also in IGI records I have found whom I think is Jonathan's son and grandchildren - Film #2034649, Jonathan BUSBY b. Nov. 27, 1858, Arcadia, Trempealeau, WI. He married Harriet Day (date unknown). Their children, all born in Arcadia, Trempealeau, WI and listed in Film # 178095 were: Willie b. Abt. 1864 Annie Laurie b. Feb. 14, 1866 Hattie b. Abt. 1870 George b. Abt. 1872 Clarence b. Abt. 1875 Edwin Day b. May 19, 1883 Also in this film number is daughter of Edwin Day BUSBY, Leonella Bathene b. Abt. Jan 1909. Is there anyone on this list who is a descendant of these BUSBYs? I would like to fill in this branch of the BUSBY from my gr grandfather's brother. Lonna, There is no proof or documentation that Balaam Buzbee was a son of Samuel. As a descendant of Balaam I have no proof of his parents. I have from a descendant of John BUSBY that this John was born in Ireland and I have his descendants. I can not speak for the other issue of Samuel as put forth by Lou Miles. I have asked for such proof for the issue of Samuel and am unable to acquire it. I have in the past on this site stated my disbelief that Balaam Buzbee was a son of Samuel. In the 1850 census of Adams Co. IL Balaam and family is found, here he states he is 60 and born SC.. One of his sons in the 1880 census states his father was born SC. Extensive research in SC has failed to find any mention of Balaam among the many Busby, Busbee, Buzby, Buzbee records there. He is my dead end until some documentation surfaces pointing to his parents or father. Just the facts, Mam. Patrick H. Murray " THE SEARCH GOES ON "

Patsy, If I had to guess, I would say this was probably my John Busby. By 1810, Matthew had already married Saluda Tinsley (in 1803 in Amherst Co., VA) and most likely was either living in Amherst County, on his way to KY or just getting settled there. I'm afraid that I'm unable to do any searching except by computer at this time, so I don't have access to any of the census records except those on-line. Just about all of those are for 1850 or later. The only information I have on John and Margaret Busby was a sentence in an article by a Busby relative in Falls County, TX that said, "John and Margaret Busby of Hampshire County VA were the grandparents of David T. Busby", and my DavidT. Busby was the son of Matthew Busby and Saluda. I wish I had more information to give you but until I can get out and search for my ancestors the right way, (by hitting libraries, LDS centers, cemeteries, etc) I won't be able to learn much. Hopefully, that won't be too long. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Paula
