Here's another you might try: 1870 East Oakland, Coles, Illinois p. 101 Post Office: Oakland William Busby 50 Margaret Busby 40 Milton Busby 22 William Busby 16 Eliza Busby 16 Carlton Busby 5 Francis Busby 1 This has William, Milton, William Jr & Eliza all about the right ages, but birthplaces are different. She was married near Jefferson Co., TN, and it appears that they came to Adair Co. KY in the 1820's, probably with the Sparks and Reams families. 1. [BUSBY] BUSBY FAMILY FROM VA & KY - EARLY 1800'S THRU LATE 1800'S
    2. TOM F DUNKLIN
    3. Hoping to hear from anyone that can connect to or offer additional information on my Busby family. Not everything is documented. Please read Matthew, born ca 1780 in VA (I'm using the age of about 23 yrs for marriage) but where in VA is unknown. Married Saluda Tinsley in Amherst Co VA in 1803; marriage is on record. Parents were David Tinsley & Nancy Ann McDaniel of Amherst Co, VA. Moved to KY ca 1815, according to land deeds there. Had at least 4 children by the time he left VA and 4 or 5 more children after arriving in KY. Saluda Tinsley Busby died ca 1821 in Adair Co. Her father, David Tinsley, leaves property to Matthew and refers to Saluda as his deceased daughter. Married 2nd to Sarah "Sally" Drake Winfrey, widow of Elisha T. Winfrey on Aug 7, 1821 (Adair Co Marriage Records) and had at least one and possibley 2 children with her. Sarah died (or divorced) before 1841. Married 3rd Mary "Polly" Fair Bingaman in 1841 Lincoln Co, Ky and had 1 daughter Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Busby March 1843; data from records in Adair & Lincoln Co KY. Matthew died ca 1842-1843 and Polly & "Betsy Ann" moved back to Lincoln Co KY to live. They are on the 1850 & 1860 census. Betsy married Major Samuel Jones ca 1860 per census. They are also on the 1870 Lincoln Co KY census. Children sold Matthew's Adair Co land around 1850, sales are on record, and they scattered to TX & MO. Some went to Freestone, Limestone & Falls Co, TX and some joined others in Carroll Co MO. Matthew's children were: Milton b. 1804 VA Tilford b. 1805 VA David T. b. 1807 VA Perlina b. 1812 VA Nancy T. b ca 1815 KY Matilda b ca 1817 KY  (my line) Edward b 1818 KY William D b ca 1821 KY  (Not sure if William was s/o Matthew & Saluda or 2nd wife, Sarah) Permelia b 1825 KY; d/o Matthew & Sarah  Elizabeth Ann ( "Betsy Ann" ) Busby b March 16, 1843; d/o Matthew & 3rd wife Mary "Polly" Busby I am also trying to prove that the Robert Busby that lived in Adair Co KY in 1820 and was receiving a pension for his service to VA during the Rev War, was somehow connected to Matthew. This Robert states on his pension application that he was born in July 1759 Hanover Co, VA. This file also states that he was in Morgan Co IL in 1839 and mentions a brother by the name of James. This is the only mention of his family. Robert is believed to have died after 1840 in Macoupin Co IL. I can not find a wife for him but a Mary W.  P. Busby married a Lewis Harmon in Adair Co KY in 1826 and the marriage record identifies her as the d/o Robert Busby. Surnames associated with these Busbys, thought to be connected by marriages and business endevors are: WINFREY, BANKS, DRAKE, THOMAS, ATKINSON, SWEENEY, GRAVES, GUY, HARDWICK, HARMON, JONES, JUDD, SEALY, SHARP, TUCKER Thanks, Paula

    1. Re: [BUSBY] Early Census Records
    2. Sue Ashby
    3. Unless the census has been rearranged by the enumerator to be in alphabetical order, the census was supposed to be taken in order of residence. The census taker was a sworn assistant U.S. Marshall and thereby under oath. But, we know there was hanky panky in that some people were counted that did not exist or children listed that did not exist or families listed twice or more (where there was not movement of the family to a new location).. The 1820 census of Adair Co. KY looks to be in order of residence. I don't see a Robert in the 1830 or 1840 census of Adair Co. So, yes, in the 1820 they either lived next door to each other or they could have lived in the same house just, two heads of families.... 1. [BUSBY] FINDING INFORMATION IN COUNTY RECORDS OLDER THAN 1800
    2. TOM F DUNKLIN
    3. Maybe someone can answer a question for me. I'm looking for information on John Busby and Matthew Busby in the 1780-1810 time frame in the states of VA and W. VA; especially in the counties of Hampshire and Amherst. Apparently there are very few records left that are legible or on-line. How can I dig out this kind of information on line? At this  point in time, I'm unable to travel to the East coast. I can't find any kind of paper trail for Matthew in VA or W VA except for his marriage  in 1803 Amherst Co Va.. I find him in Adair Co KY in 1816 but can't find him in 1810, anywhere. Matthew had at least 3 children by 1810, Milton, Tilford and David T. Where were they in 1810? I'm desperate to find something that will connect or prove that John Busby and Margaret Patterson Busby were his parents but records are almost non-existent. Any ideas? Paula

    1. [BUSBY] DID BENJAMIN F BUSBY & MARY E HAVE DAUGHTER NAMED KATIE T BUSBY( BORN 1887-DIED 1889)WHO IS BURIED HONEST RIDGE CEMETERY, LIMESTONE CO TX???
    2. TOM F DUNKLIN
    3. Headstone in Honest Ridge Cemetery, Limestone Co TX says, Katie T. Busby, "born Nov 16, 1887 and died May 19, 1889.....d/o B. F. and M. E. Busby." She is buried just outside the fenced grave site of Perlina M Busby Tucker and husband, Spotswood Tucker. I believe Perlina to be Katie's great aunt. Perlina and Spotswood left Adair Co KY and came to TX mid 1800's. This Katie T Busby is believed to be the daughter of the above Benjamin & Mary.  Benjamin was the son of Tilford Busby (Perlina was Tilford's sister), and Sarah Hardwick. Tilford was the son of Matthew Busby & Saluda Tinsley Busby, all of Adair Co Ky. Confused, yet? Would like to prove Katie's parents were Benjamin and Mary and also would like to find the grave sites of Benjamin and Mary. Paula
