My Matthew Busby line seems to have a very similar history and names but I just can't find his parents or siblings. Matthew was born between 1770-1780, best I can figure. He married into the Tinsley family of Amherst Co VA and moved to Adair Co KY ca 1815. Matthew and Saluda (Tinsley) Busby also had a son named David T and a son named William. Think he might have been named William D Busby. Some of my Matthew's children moved to Carroll Co MO and the others to central Texas. There may even be a slight connection to Illinois and/or Indiana, as well. I have a good amount of info on my line and would like to compare my data with you. If you will look at the Genforum web site under the Busby surname, you will find a lot of my Busby info posted. Just enter my name into the search box and it should bring up my postings for you to read. Hope to hear from you via email after you see what all I have posted. Author: bmatkins1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.busby/2036.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My James Busby family line - brief history James Busby born 2 May 1754 in France (?) and married Elizabeth Shackelford on 4 March 1790 and died in July 1838. Six children are identified: Cynthia b. 1795; Martha b. 1796; Gabriella b. 1804; Sophia b. 1806; Georgia Ann b. 1808; and James jr b. 1812. >From our family tradition, this history begins with the Busby's fighting in the American Revolutionary war on the American side. Two brothers, John and Jake Busby, are assumed to have come from France to aid America in their battle with England. John fought with General Lafayette and Jake or James was under General Marion. After the war, the Busby remained in America. It is believed they settled in Virginia. James married Elizabeth Shackelford either in Virginia or Kentucky. They were living in Kentucky on 20 November 1790 when their daughter Martha Nancy Busby was born. Martha married George A Ritter in Kentucky on 28 September 1814. George Ritter was born 10 February 1790 in Maryland. George and Martha Ritter moved from Kentucky to Monroe Co Indiana about 1824. James & Elizabeth (Shackelford) Busby had a son James Busby Jr. James Busby Jr had a son David T Busby (who married three times) David T Busby had a son William A Busby who was Carolyn Earle's grandfather. David T Busby moved between KY and IN According to Carolyn Earle, James Busby sr immigrant ancestor was Matthew Busby who came from Londonderry, Ireland to America in 1600's. I have no proof of this. 1. [BUSBY] Meredith Busby and Minerva Hunt
    2. L. Newville
    3. I am descended from Elizabeth Jane Busby b. abt 1826 who married Robert A. Gilliam. She was the daughter of Meredith Busby (or "Merriday," as my ggrandfather called him) and Minerva Hunt. Meredith and Minerva Busby lived in Pontotoc Co., Mississippi in 1840. Minerva moved to Lafayette Co., Miss. before 1850. She lived near several families who I suspect are related but cannot prove it. Their children were: Elizabeth Jane Busby b abt 1826, James C Busby b abt 1830, Levi P Busby b. abt 1831, Jerry M Busby b. Apr 1833, Delilah A M Busby b. abt 1835, Jasper Busby b abt 1840, Columbus Richard Busby b. abt 1841, Cynthia Margaret Busby b. abt 1843, Harriet Busby b. abt 1846. At least two of their sons served in the Civil War: Columbus R. Busby died of "Febris Typhiretis" on 9 Nov 1861 at Cubb Run near Centerville, Viriginia. His final paycheck was sent to his mother in Lafayette Springs, Miss. Jerry M Busby also served. My ggrandfather remembered that he lost his finger in the Civil War. I have seen reports on the internet that son James C also served, but I currently have no information. I recently found some old message board posts and mailing list archives. I am trying to contact the researchers who were working on this Busby line. I am very interested in the reports of James Busby's (Meredith's father's) will or probate record and in finding the source of the information that Jeremiah Meredith Busby was born on wolf creek in TN. If you have any information about this, would you please repond? Linda

My grandfather was one of their sons, Virgil Harvey Chinn born 10-7-1903 died 5-17-1994. Virgil was raised in Carroll County Missouri and Yamhill County, Oregon. Anymore information on the Busby line would be really great. I am stuck at Philip Busby born abt 1800 if he was born in Tennessee or South or North Carolina and who knows who his father was. I saw somewhere his father may have been Ezekiel and his mother's name may have been Nancy Jane Gordon. 1. [BUSBY] Busby - Ivy
    2. barbara moss
    3. Thank you for the information, DNA is certainly facinating. My closest Ivy connection is to the Ivies in Johnston co., N.C., this is where my family was in the 1750's as were the Ivies. I kind of think there is a connection there and plan to see if I can find any thing after the first of the new year. The name could have been Irby, the many ways Busby is spelled it would not be a surprise that the Ivy spelling is the same. Hopefully more will have their dna tested and this will shed some light on our family connections.

The Busby/Busbee/Busbice-Ivey/Ivy/Ivie match is actually as great as 67/67 for some participants, so it's a certainty that one family line from each of the larger families has a common ancestor at some point in time.
