    2. John BUSBY
    3. Wayne, no, my James Busby is probably the son of the Thomas Busby who was in Newberry County in 1800. This Thomas Busby was related to Jeremiah Busby (either the father of Jeremiah or a brother of Jeremiah) and lived next door to my James Busby and a George Busby (probably a brother of James) in the 1830 Newberry Co. census. Does it make any difference who the second dna donor is? I can get one of my nephews to do it or get some distant cousins. By the way, my new e-mail is [email protected] I still maintain my old address at [email protected] Thanks, John M.(Jack) Busby -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2003 8:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Busbee Busby] DNA Project I have reviewed my list and I don't see anyone else who descended from a James Busby b. 1798. However one or two didn't give me a lineage. Is this the James Busby who is the great grand father to Gov. Busby? If so, check with Rick Busby. He is the Governor's nephew and has stated he wants to wait awhile. My great grand fathe is Allen and is the brother of Gov. Busbee's ggrandfather James. 3. Darien Tell Ray we all wish him well and glad he is recuperating from his operation. I haven't contacted Dennis about this, but will send the information tomorrow. I think I might go through the records and see if there are any more records and write to the Library and get them to make copies. It is really interesting. I would love to see a description of Ned. Our Busby ancestors and the executor Norris did try and pursue Benjamin's wishes for Ned's emancipation in the court and I now wonder who Ned ended up with and how his life turned out. Gaila

I hope they haven't already been followed to no avail. I quote the bio of Thomas Busbey below? Is the Matthew Busbey here the Matthew Busbey who is the son of John Busby and Margaret Patterson? Could be if they left Antrim, IR after Matthew's birth. It looks to me like there was Hamilton Busbey, son of John Busby and Hamilton Busbey, grandson of John Busby and son of Matthew Busbey. OR, the author below wrote "Matthew Busby" mistakenly and should have written "John Busby." & (judging from the link you referred to) Samuel Busby who m. Esther Shinn and had a son Hamilton Busby cannot be the same Samuel Busby who is named in the will of John Busby because one died in Kentucky and one died in Virginia. (The quote below from Clark Co., OH shows how the author/horseracer Hamilton Busby of NYC is related.) from http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Clark/ClarkHarmonybio.htm transcription of The History of Clark County Ohio: "THOMAS C. BUSBEY, retired teacher; P. O. Vienna Cross Roads. Matthew Busbey, the grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born in the county of Antrim, Ireland. He came to America about the year 1771. He settled on the south bank of the Potomac, in Hampshire Co.. Va. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary army. At the time of his death he left a widow, five sons and one daughter. Hamilton Busbey, the father of the subject of this sketch, being the youngest. Hamilton Busbey was born in Hampshire Co., Va., on the old homestead, July 5, 1792. He was married to Miss Sophia Lewis, of Winchester, Va., in the year 1813. This union was blessed by the birth of seven sons and five daughters, ten of whom are now living, the subject of this sketch being the oldest. Hamilton Busbey and family came to Ohio in October, 1815, and settled in what is now Harmony Township, near the town of Lisbon. Hamilton was a man of considerable influence. He took an active part in the organization of! Clark County and Harmony Township. He did much in the organization of the schools of Harmony Township. Hamilton Busbey, in 1815, was looking about for a suitable place to locate in the county. At this time he was offered the lot upon which Jones & Miller's dry goods store is now situated in Springfield for a very small sum of money, but in his judgment at that time Lisbon was the most promising place of the two, where he purchased a corner lot. What a change since then! Hamilton Busbey was a Quartermaster in the war of 1812. Mr. Busbey was for some years the owner of a farm near where the town of Plattsburg now is. He and his family (excepting the subject of this sketch) moved to Illinois in 1839, and settled in Coles Co., where he died Dec. 16, 1847. His wife, Sophia, died at the same place April 2, 1855. The subject of this sketch, Thomas C. Busbey, was born in the town of Romney, in Hampshire Co., Va., March 13, 1815. He came to Harmony Township with his parents in 1815,! where he has continued to reside since. He commenced teaching school at the age of 19 years, and continued to teach for thirty-five years in Clark Co. Mr. Busbey was united in marriage, May 24, 1838, to Miss Anna Bodkin, a daughter of Richard Bodkin, who was a pioneer of Ohio. He was born in Harrison Co.. Va., in 1787. He settled in Hamilton Co., Ohio, in 1803, and moved to Clark Co. in 1808. Richard Bodkin's wife, Elizabeth Bodkin (nee) Hester, was born July 28, 1782; she lived where Cincinnati, Ohio, now is, when there were but three houses in that neighborhood. As a result of the marriage of Thomas C. and Anna Busbey, there has been born to them ten children, nine of whom are now living-William (the political editor of the Inter-Ocean, of Chicago, Ill.), Hamilton (a contributing editor, and one of the proprietors of the Turf, Field and Farm, of New York City) . . ."

I know nothing about any of the other Busby children. My theory is that my Matthew was the Matthew mentioned in John's will but I can't prove it. Another researcher, many years ago, identified the Matthew in John's will as having settled in a state other than KY and that he died in Va leaving a son named George. If this is true, then John's Matthew is not mine. However, I'm going on the theory that he was wrong and that my Matthew was John's son. Nothing to prove it but a story from the past saying he was John and Margaret's son. Wish I could help you but I'm stuck myself on my Busby line. If I ever find anything more, I'll let you know. Good luck.

David Allen Shirley was b. 1805 SC and bur. LA. Drusilla was born in GA, d. 1856 and bur. Caldwell Parish, LA. Drusilla and David had at least these children: Zachariah Shirley Jemima Shirley Hamilton Shirley b. 1837 Daniel Shirley b. 1839 Wayne Co., MS Edward Shirley b. 1845 Wayne Co., MS Alexander Shirley b. 1848 Wayne Co., MS Laura Shirley Feebe Shirley (Phebe?) David Allen Shirley's brother or 1st cousin, Burrell Allen Shirley married Nancy Busby, who was the daughter of Jeremiah and Phebe (Miles) Busby of Wayne Co., MS. I've looked at the Jeremiah Busby household and there are unanswered questions. Jeremiah and Phebe were married 1818. Here is the census data: 1830 Census Jeramiah Busby 3 males 5-10 = J. Jesse age 7, ?, ? 2 males 10-15 = Miles 15, Nathan 11 (Miles cannot be the son of Phebe) 1 male 30-40 = Jeramiah age 35 3 females to 5 = ?, Mary age 1 or 2, Elenor "Emma" < 1 1 female 15-20 = ? (cannot be the child of Phebe and Jer. if m. 1818) 1 female 30-40 = Phebe age 33 1840 Census Jeramiah Busby 1 m to 5 = Tampson? (or Sampson?) 1 m 10-15 = Leonard 10 1 m 16-20 = J. Elenor Busby 20 Phebe Busby 16 Leonard Busby 19 Nancy Busby 13 (the little Nancy) Elisabeth Busby 11 Emily Busby 9 Elisabeth Shirley 10 (could be child of David Allen Shirley, John Shurley, etc?? Prob. not Burrell Allen Shirley's kid) Tampson Shirley or Busby 16 (is Tampson really Sampson? Is he a Shirley or a Busby?) 1860 Phebe Busby Phebe Busby 63 Emma Busby 29 (probably Elenor) Is it likely that either Jeremiah Busby or Phebe (Miles) Busby was married before they married each other? That would explain why Miles Busby is too old to be born in 1818 or after. Can anybody explain who "Tampson" is? Who are the two mystery boys in 1830 age 5-10? Why are there two girls named Nancy? My primary question is who is the girl in the 1830 census who is age 15-20? Could she be Drusilla Busby or just another stray that this family took in?
