    2. Ralph Busby was listed on the Jamestown census of 1623, but that was prior to an Indian uprising and massacre of Jamestown the same year. I could not find any information on whether or not Ralph survived that massacre. Also could not find any land, marriage, census or other records for him thereafter. Anyone know anything more about him?

    3. I ran across a copy of Birth Records 1885-1920 for Greene County Indiana. Does anyone have a John Busby married to (?) Taylor who bore a female child Dec 26,1904? This is near my mom's birth year but the name does not ring a bell. I also have a Phineas C Busby in Owen County in 1850 census that I don't recognize. There is a Isaac Busby in that census who lived close to Phineas. Just thought I'd create more questions. :) Carolyn

    3. Thanks for your replies to my 12-07-03 request for information on James Busby. My health and other activities prevented me from posting this earlier. 2. Gaila & James Merrington
    3. Later on I will transcribe these peititions out in full, but basically they don't tell us anything new about Ned. They don't describe Ned either, which is a pity. They do give us one real piece of information: Benjamin Busbee had a daughter who married Lewis Sawyer. This means that Benjamin did not name each of his children in his will only the three boys that lived at home with him. Possibly as the children married or left home, Benjamin gave them a share and then he did not name them in his will. Can anyone name the wife of Lewis Sawyer? Ansel Sawyer must be related to Lewis. Ansel was one of the executors to the will with Nathan Norris. As far as I can tell Nathan Norris was not related to Benjamin via his wife, so Nathan could have been a neighbor or friend. One of the petitions to the South Carolina Assembly was taken by Sussanah, Reese and Benjamin Jr and Lewis Sawyer. Another by Nathan Norris It is very busy at work & home with long hours at the moment. So if I haven't answered an email, please give me a bit more time. Hopefully this weekend things will calm down a bit before the run up to Christmas. Gaila

It would seem that there are a couple of lines that seem to cross, blend or just don't belong to one another. I know my facts are 100 percent accurate back to "my" James Sr who was married to Nancy Lewis. He was the father of James Jr born ca 1811 who married Eliza Harp and bore my great grandfather David Taylor. This family moved back and forth between Kentucky (early part of Va) and Indiana. Owen County and Greene. Any one have any ideas? cj

    1. [Busbee Busby] Busby in the Domesday book
    2. Gaila & James Merrington
    3. The Domesday book was compiled in a matter of months in 1086, at the end of William the Conqueror's reign. It was a "survey of all England, of the land in each of the counties; of the possessions of each of the magnates, their land, their habitation, their men both bond and free, living in huts or with their own houses or land..." Robert Bishop of Hereford I thought that there might have been one village called Busby or one family and that many of our lines could have extended down from the village, but of course, that wasn't to be. There are several references to the name Busby and I will list them here. Some of these names are in an Old English but translated into Busby. Under the heading of the Land of the King in Yorkshire: pg 790 In Great Busby, Leysingr, 1 1/2 carucates to the geld. Land for 1 plough pg 831 In Great Busby, Ealdraed had half a carucate of land to the geld. Robert has it and it is waste pg 852 In Stokesley, Hawarth had 6 carcuates of land to the geld..... ...Great Busby, 5 carucates and another Busby [Busby} 3 Carucates more to come Definitions from Google defined: Carucate: A measurement of land equal to the amount a team of eight oxen could plough in one year. Usually between 160 and 180 acres (other sources say 120 acres) Demesne: Land on a "manor" reserved for the lord's own use, as distinct from land held by tenants

Mathew Busby married Mary Cade ca 1790. His third son James Busby Sr., married Nancy Lewis. One of their children was James Busby Jr. born 1811, married Eliza Harp born 1817. Their nineth born David Taylor born 3 Aug 1861 was married three times. His second wife was Flora Jane Keller born 11/12/1868. They had one son, William Alvin 1/04/1890 who married Blanche Burnett on 11/26/1913. They had three children one of whom was VeraDean Francis Busby born 4/5/1922. She was my mother. cj

    3. I am a Busby still living in Northern Ireland & have traced my own line back to Archibald Busby, b circa 1800 @ Tynan in Co Armagh. As you have picked up, there is a great concentration centred around counties Armagh, Tyrone, Monaghan & Fermanagh. Although I can find no proof as yet, this line is believed to have originated from Dover (England) in early 1600's settling in Caledon in Co Tyrone. Caledon and Tynan are small villages about two miles apart, one in Tyrone, the other in Armagh. The border to Co Monaghan is only a few miles from both, with Fermanagh about 20 miles west. It is believed the Busbys in these areas are all connected, but tracking is very difficult as the same names occur in most families. I have one family line running in the Ballygawley area of Tyrone, but cannot link them to my own. I would be keen to share any info on Irish Busbys. 2. George.Busby
    3. Greetings I have been researching my own Busby line for almost ten years now. Our line came from Scotland to the North of Ireland around 1626. Over the generations some moved to Australia, but I have no information on anyone going to America. Having said that there were Busbys who lived on the outskirts of Belfast who moved first to Glasgow and then went on to America. During this past year I have started to record all the Busbys in Ireland who are recorded under civil registration. My efforts are coming along nicely, but it will take me another year to complete stage one. My research to date has uncovered families in the cities of Dublin, Cork, also County Monaghan and in the North of Ireland. The biggest concentration of the name is to be found in the province of Ulster, north of the border. In relation to my own family I have one mystery I cannot solve. My own namesake George Busby erected a headstone to his mother Susanna Busby. She departed this life 19th Jan 1863 aged 72 years. Despite a great deal of digging and searching I have discovered nothing more on George. I must put this on the forum and see if anyone can help.
