    3. I don't know anything about Charles Busby I would love to know if he had siblings, I am very surprised at how little family interest there has been on the Busby list for the Irish Busbys. Griffiths valuations list everyone who owned an acre of land or above & according to the list there were a fair few Busbys but no one seems to be related to them. I just keep hoping. 3. I always read with interest the BUSBY mail especially when it mentions the Irish Busbys. My great grandfather was Charles Busby who was born about 1860 Ireland. Where in Ireland remains a mystery (as on the census he always gives his place of birth as Ireland), his wife's family came from Antrim though they must have met & they did marry in Glasgow in 1884. I wish I had asked my grandmother more questions about her family, what I do know however is that her father Charles Busby served his time in the shipyard as on her birth certificate his occupation is given as a Boilermaker, when they moved from Glasgow to Newcastle he worked at the Naval yard in Walker as a boilermaker. I also know that he was an Orangeman as he marched every year in July for the Orange Day march. Family hearsay says that he was orphaned & was taken in by an uncle who was anything but kind to him, finally resulting in him running away. Charles was born about 2 years prior to the start of civil registration in Ireland so there is no birth registration for him. On his marriage in 1884 he gave his father as Charles Busby farmer deceased & his mother as Mary Ann Lansley/Lamsley deceased or a similar name ( His marriage certificate is a photocopy & his mothers surname is not that clear) as his parents would appear to be non Catholics the marriage if it took place before 1843 should have been registered but where? I have visited the Mormon Research centre at Billingham as they are my nearest who hold copies of the registers for birth deaths & marriages for Ireland up until 1901. I sent for the only listed Mary Ann Busbys death certificate she died at Ballycraiggy (District of Belfast No8) 28 Oct 1874 she was aged 48 Mechanics wife but no name of husband given the death was registered on Dec 21 1874 by a William McMillen. I have every Busby listed in Griffiths valuations but I am unable to match anything up with Charles. I have several MI & also all the PRO have on Busbys again nothing ties in. The IGI does show a birth of an Elizabeth Busby 16.March 1830 daughter of Charles Busby at Carnmoney/Templepatrick could this be his family. If anyone out there can help I will be very grateful Best wishes Sheila Senior

    3. What about the town of Busby/Busbee in Scotland. My great grandfather was James Carson Busbee. Barbara >>> [email protected] 12/08/03 07:14AM >>> I am a Busby still living in Northern Ireland & have traced my own line back to Archibald Busby, b circa 1800 @ Tynan in Co Armagh. As you have picked up, there is a great concentration centred around counties Armagh, Tyrone, Monaghan & Fermanagh. Although I can find no proof as yet, this line is believed to have originated from Dover (England) in early 1600's settling in Caledon in Co Tyrone. Caledon and Tynan are small villages about two miles apart, one in Tyrone, the other in Armagh. The border to Co Monaghan is only a few miles from both, with Fermanagh about 20 miles west. It is believed the Busbys in these areas are all connected, but tracking is very difficult as the same names occur in most families. I have one family line running in the Ballygawley area of Tyrone, but cannot link them to my own. I would be keen to share any info on Irish Busbys. Our line came from Scotland to the North of Ireland around 1626. Over the generations some moved to Australia, but I have no information on anyone going to America. Having said that there were Busbys who lived on the outskirts of Belfast who moved first to Glasgow and then went on to America. During this past year I have started to record all the Busbys in Ireland who are recorded under civil registration. My efforts are coming along nicely, but it will take me another year to complete stage one. My research to date has uncovered families in the cities of Dublin, Cork, also County Monaghan and in the North of Ireland. The biggest concentration of the name is to be found in the province of Ulster, north of the border. In relation to my own family I have one mystery I cannot solve. My own namesake George Busby erected a headstone to his mother Susanna Busby. She departed this life 19th Jan 1863 aged 72 years. Despite a great deal of digging and searching I have discovered nothing more on George. I must put this on the forum and see if anyone can help. 1. [Busbee Busby] Petition for Ned's Emancipation
    2. Gaila & James Merrington
    3. Hello I was able to type in the Will of Benjamin Busbee and also the petition for Ned the slave's freedom. The interesting feature is the cover of the petition mentions Susanah Hague, the petition is signed by Susanah Buzbee. Does anyone know if Hague was Susanah's maiden name? Reese is also on the cover of the petition but doesn't sign it which is interesting. Also it names Lewis Sawyer as a son-in-law of Benjamin Busbee Senior, so Benjamin did have a daughter and probably didn't name all of his children if he had already given them a portion. I don't know whether Benjamin decided he was dying and decided not to be a slave owner when he went to heaven or if Ned was his child. Ned was never freed and that is a sad thought. I did come across another record where Benjamin did sell three other slaves, so I wonder if they took Ned out of South Carolina and freed him later on. Gaila Petition of Susanah Hague Lewis Sawyer Reese Buzbee and Benjamin Buzbee To the Honourable The Senate and House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina. The prayer of your petitioners humbly shewth that whereas Benjamin Buzbee, late of Edgefield District, Deceased bid by his Last will and testament in writing bearing bearing out [last two words hard to read] on the fourth of October last, direct that a certain Negro man named Ned the property of said deceased should be set free therefore we, Susannah Buzbee, widow of said deceased and Lewis Sawyer, son-in-law and Benjamin Buzbee so of the said decd. Do hereby pray your honourable bodie to take into consideration this, our petition, with the case of said Negro and devise some means for the Emmancipation of said Negro by empowering the Executors Nathan Norris and Ansil Sawyer of either of them to furnish said Negro with a deed of emancipation and certificate that the law requires and your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray -- November the 29th 1815 her Susanah X Buzbee Mark Lewis Sawyer B.. Why doesn't everyone look in their file and send the list the most interesting piece of information. You just might provide the missing link for someone else. 3. My husband has a mysterious Busby ancestor who lived in 1850 in Wayne Co. MS. We are searching for Drusilla Busby who was married to David Allen Shirley. Nobody is sure where she was born--could be SC, GA, AL, or MS. She could not have been born any later than 1823. Here is the information we have: David Allen Shirley b. May 22, 1810 d. June 10, 1892 Father: Richard Shirley? John Shirley? Mother: Birth: SC (Darlington? Cheraw Dist?) Death: 1892 DeRidder, Beauregard Par., LA Spouse 1: Drusilla Busby (b. GA?? d. 1856 near Columbia, Caldwell Parish LA) Children: 1. Zachariah Shirley 2. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Shirley b: BET 1828 AND 1847 3. Jemima Shirley b: BET 1831 AND 1860 4. Hamilton Shirley b: SEP 1837 5. Daniel W. Shirley b: 8 SEP 1839 in Wayne County, Miss 6. Edward Shirley b: 1 AUG 1845 in Wayne County, Mississippi 7. Alexander Shirley b: 4 MAY 1848 in Wayne County, Mississippi 8. Laura Shirley b: 1855 9. "Feebe" Shirley b. ? Spouse 2: Mahalla (or Mahaley, Mehalley, Mahallia, Mahala, Mabala) Eason b. 1832 in MS, d. 1911 LA (Parents from GA) Children: 1. Martha Louisa Shirley? (Census says Martha's mother from SC) b: 20 JUL 1860 (Census says 1862) in Louisiana m. John L. Austin 2. Mary Azzeline (Azaline) Shirley b: 1865 in Calcasieu Parish, La m. Joseph Simmons (Azzilene on gravestone, bur. in Pleasant Hill Cemetery) 3. David Allen "Little Dave" Shirley b: 1867 in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana m. Ella Holliday (Drygoods salesman) 4. John T Shirley b: 19 MAR 1869 m. Mattie Holliday 5. Susan (Sousan) L Shirley b: 1875 in Louisiana m. Carrol Sanders 6. Walter D Shirley b: 29 JAN 1878 in Louisiana m. Mary Lewis Notes: (Mahala Shirley tried for murder, Darlington, SC, 1864) Drusilla is likely to be related to Zachariah Busby and/or Jeremiah and Phebe Busby who lived in Wayne Co., MS. Drusilla has been incredibly hard to find. It's possible that she married a Busby and that that was not her original name (my theory). Closely related families are Shirley, Shirly, Shurly, Eason, Barrentine, Simmons, Allen, Sanders, Burrell, and maybe Street and Overstreet. Any help is appreciated. 2. My mistake. I meant it was Edward who was in the 1623 Jamestown census, not Ralph. Ralph is another Busby who was associated with the Jamestown colony. He was a charter member of the Virginia Company in 1609. Also was a member of the prestigious Grocer's Guild in London. I have no other information about Ralph or Edward. Sorry for the faux pas. 3. Sorry, I just sent a message by accident. I was going to say that (Anne Busby) Nickerson and family arrived Boston 1637 and and Nicholas Busby, her father, arrived Boston in either 1603-04 or in 1637 (I can't tell by the explanation in the book History and genealogy of the Mayflower planters and first comers to ye olde colonie), but several people have these Busbys listed on their websites. I can't find Edward Busby, but 1619 is a well-documented year for Jamestown, so I would recommend Ken look for resources about Jamestown.
