Surnames: Burriss, Tilton, Frost, Claw Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iBH.2ACIB/965 Message Board Post: Bear with me as i explain my problem. It involved a lot of Tiltons and Frosts, but the brick wall is Betsy Burriss. I have been doing lots of research on Elijah Tilton of Ohio and have found that there were Elijahs, Richards, and Williams all over the place at the same time in that area. "Mine" were in Knox County, Jefferson Township. There wwas an Elijah and a William also in Knox County, Jackson Twp. But I found land records that show my Elijah and a Richard living in Jefferson Twp.less than a mile from Josiah Frost, Jr., whose son, Joseph, married Deborah Tilton, one of the children of Elijah. Deborah and Joseph moved to Ogle County, IL with Elijah. My grandmother's family record quite clearly says "Grandmother Debbie's mother was a Burriss before she married. (Elijah Tilton)" There was a Rev. Burriss who organized the first Methodist Church iin Jefforson Township OH, and my family were all staunch Methodists. I believe that the standard references on Tiltons in Ohio are wrong about my line. Tilton researchers refer me to the books that say my Elijah married Elizabeth Claw. But my grandmother had everything else right, so I am quite sure that my Elijah did not marry Elizabeth Claw or Clow. I have looked at genealogies on the Web and found references to a Betsy or Betty Burriss, who was the daughter of a Rev. Burriss (which one, and when, I don't know), which explains the fact the my Elijah's wife was named Elizabeth. But she was not Elizabeth Claw! Does anyone have ony info on Burris or Burriss ministers who lived in Ohio? Charnee Smit
