John C. Burris b. 1775-1779 (based on wife's birthdate & letter to me from Tom G. Burrows, Merritt Island, Fla dated 8-6-1986 in which he says b. 1776 or 1777 in Guilford Co. N. C. says he moved to Highland Co. Oh when oher Quakers moved there) m. Deborah Ballard b. 3-4-1779 (7th of 9 ch. of Thomas Ballard & Elizabeth based on Westfield, Surry Co., N. C. meeting records) 1808 listed on Highland Co., Ohio Voters List. 7-28-1810 Fairfield MM, Ohio John C. Bures & w received on certificate from (person sending copy cut off balance of column) In the same location was John and Frances, Daniel, and Barclay. 7-28-1810 Fairfield MM, Ohio Deborough (Buris) received on certificate from (balance of column missing) 1-18-1815 John C. bought land in Highland Co., OH from Nat'l Pope & James Johnson 12-25-1815 Highland Co., OH John C. and wife Deborah sold land to John Harleman 1-6-1818 Highland Co., OH he married Sarah Jessup (conclusion: wife Deborah died 1816-1817) There is a gap in records at this point. I don't know if he died or what here. But I see more John C. records elsewhere but they could be those of a John C. Jr. 12-21-1829 Morgan Co., Ind. land deed John C. Burris twp. 14 1840 Index to Indiana Census lists John C. Burris as a head of household in Morgan Co., IN. Another listing from Original Deed Book 4 from Highland Co., OH stated in deposition dated October 18, 1836 that S.E. corner of tract of Andrew Beaver (deposition to prove validity) Samuel Ramsey deposes that about 1817 or 1818 hew saw the trees marking the corner. James Ramsey deposes the same as Samuel. Both Ramseys state that JOHN C. BURRIS was then the owner of the Andrew Beaver tract. My thought and there is absolutely no proof to back this up, is that since John C. Burris traveled the same routes that John Burris and wife Esther Terry and their family traveled that he could possibly be the son of one of their older children such as William or Moses. In some notes someone sent me years ago I have a notation on Moses "1784 John Burris moved to Stokes Co., N. C. on Toms Creek. Moses about 19 years of age." This would indicate for instance that John & Esther's older son William had to have been at least 20 or older. Little is known about William as he was disowned, condemned for his outgoings etc. several times until he was finally disowned. William could have been born as early as 1757 or 1758. William was still at home in 1-30-1776 according to Quaker records but he could have been married at any time about Jan. 30, 1776. Tom G. Burrows was having the same problem you had in straightening out the different John Burris, but he did not have the problem solved in 1986 when he wrote me. Good luck!
