(The town had formerly been spelled Stewartson.) The folks at the Shelby Co. Society (Historical? Genealogical?) were very helpful when I was there. The courthouse folks are also good about working with you and answering questions. You might search in Shelby Co. I don't know where you are but the Genealogical Institute of Mid America is a great workshop held every summer in July in Springfield. It is not too far from Shelby Co.
