    3. You are correct he was a descendant of Solomon Burris, Sr. and Judith Taylor, he was their 4th great grandson. I would be very interested in exchanging information with you. I have been working on my genealogy for 15 years and I still have a lot of holes but I also have a lot of information. Keep up the good work!! Shorty served in the Army during World War II he was a PFC (Heavy Machinegunner) with the 181 Field Artillery, part of the 8th Army in the Philipine Liberation and Pacific Islands Campaigns. After the war he set up housekeeping in Concord NC near Hartsell School with Ida Mae Bentley (1914 - 2000) - daughter of Roby Lloyd Bentley (1895 - abt 1919) and L.W. LuElla Campbell (1897 - 1983). My early memories are of their chickens -- they were both fond of the chickens but I remember he more than her being the chicken keeper. She was a fine cooker of chickens though! I recall he also kept pigeons, doves, and "banties" [Bantam fowl] which were very pretty. Shorty was a musician, he played guitar, banjo, and mandolin. I recall that he most enjoyed mandolin and was quite accomplished in the styles of popular country and bluegrass. To this day, I regret that he and I never had an opportunity to really sit down and play music together. "Shorty" and "Mae" stayed together there until his death on 7 April 1988. Mae was my natural grandmother, shorty was my mother's stepfather and the only grandfather I ever knew. My research indicates that he was a descendant of Solomon Burris Sr. and Judith Taylor who lived in [then] Montgomery County NC in an area that is now Stanly County North Carolina after about 1783. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
