Well Folks..things have been pretty quiet, with Rootsweb upgrading servers, vacations & glorious weather. So lets have a Roll Call!! Remember to list locations, dates and wives names..and any other info that might help locate your brick wall. Please also change the subject line each time to your ancestor's name. Roll Call starts Friday (19)10 am thru Monday (22)10 pm...that should be enough time for everyone to read their mail. Most of all, have fun and lets break down some walls!! Blaine Lee "Shorty" Burris was born 28 June 1916 in Midland, Cabarrus County, North Carolina the son of Adam Alexander Burris (1883-1956) and Mamie Ann Yow (1892-1960) - Adam and Mamie were both of Stanly County NC and buried at Loves Grove Methodist Church there. Shorty served in the Army during World War II he was a PFC (Heavy Machinegunner) with the 181 Field Artillery, part of the 8th Army in the Philipine Liberation and Pacific Islands Campaigns. After the war he set up housekeeping in Concord NC near Hartsell School with Ida Mae Bentley (1914 - 2000) - daughter of Roby Lloyd Bentley (1895 - abt 1919) and L.W. LuElla Campbell (1897 - 1983). My early memories are of their chickens -- they were both fond of the chickens but I remember he more than her being the chicken keeper. She was a fine cooker of chickens though! I recall he also kept pigeons, doves, and "banties" [Bantam fowl] which were very pretty. Shorty was a musician, he played guitar, banjo, and mandolin. I recall that he most enjoyed mandolin and was quite accomplished in the styles of popular country and bluegrass. To this day, I regret that he and I never had an opportunity to really sit down and play music together. "Shorty" and "Mae" stayed together there until his death on 7 April 1988. Mae was my natural grandmother, shorty was my mother's stepfather and the only grandfather I ever knew. My research indicates that he was a descendant of Solomon Burris Sr. and Judith Taylor who lived in [then] Montgomery County NC in an area that is now Stanly County North Carolina after about 1783.
My GGrandmother was Elizabeth Jane Burris b 20 Mar 1859 in Ohio; died 16 Jun 1928; buried 18 Jan 1928 in Mica Cemetery, Spokane, WA. She is reportedly the daughter of Crummell Burris.....spouse unknown. Crummell is my Dead End! Elizabeth Jane Burris married Francis M. Flack prior to 1880. They reportedly had 13 children: Florence E.; Maude; Merle; Clyde; Hazel; Mae; Mildred and Frances are known. The also adopted Laura E. Any help I can find with this portion of my line would be sincerely appreciated. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
