You have taken an interesting new approach to finding family! Most of our Burries/Burris were in/around Franklin, IN, and were land owners and horse breeders ( not "horse traders", I hope!). I don't know of any of them being involved in road building. One son of my husband's g,g,grandfather fled Franklin after being in a fight because he though he'd killed his fight opponent (which he hadn't). He moved to Iowa (or, Idaho, some say) and changed the spelling of his name--they thought to Burris (from Burries), but, perhaps, from Burries to Burres. Good luck on your road builders research!
