His name was Joseph Burris. He was a private in Co K 7th Iowa Infantry. His military records show that he went AWOL in Oct. 1862 at Camp Boneyard, Mississippi; and he returned in Feb. 1863. However, there is also a POW record for the same dates in his military records. I have more info on him as far as this goes, if you need more. Hi Karen,,,I'm wondering if you're Johnson Burris could be a son of Benjamin Burris and Susan Riggs Burris. Believe this couple moved from Ohio to Texas in 1839. I have a McMechen family tree and on it as I said is a Johnson Burris who apparently married a Williamine Moore. If you think this is possible I can get you back a little further on the Burris line and quite a distance on the McMechen line. Let me know. Sally

Hi Will and Burris's.... Thanks Will the Stinson H. that you mentioned in the Civil War is the son of Stinson Burris that is a brother of my John Burris. There is apparently another Burrows family that came from Washington Co., OH too. This family stems from John Burrows b. 1800 and Electa Devol b. 1806, both apparently in Washington Co., OH. They had 15 children...as follows...this come from a book I have....1. James, Harriet, Stephen, Clarissa, Elizabeth, Jane John R., Polly, George, William H., Samuel, Mary, Ellen, and 2 un-named infants that died. The woman that wrote this book indicates that John Burris and Elizabeth McMechen (ie: John Burrows and Betsey McMahon)...were the parents of this John Burrows that married Electa Devol... I believe she is worng.. I have a family chart of the McMechen family that was done many many years ago.. and my John Burris married Elizabeth McMechen...not Electa Duvall. Anyway, it's something to be discussed later...Sally s
