Will..........I was unable to work on my Burris line this past week, but want a chance to research the information you sent me about Elisabeth and Cromwell Burris (siblings). I will be gone until mid-August and didn't want you to think I was ignoring this great lead you shared with me. It will be top priority when I return and I'll keep in touch.........Marilynn -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of twb7776969@aol.com Sent: Saturday, July 27, 2002 4:32 PM To: BURRIS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BURRIS] Re: Looking for my Ohio Burris line This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Kim, Monroe county Oh is right next to Belmont, actually it was formed from parts of Belmont so if your Burris went to Belmont in the early 1800's, that area may have been in the part that became Mon co. I have buried at the Calais Cemetery, Calais, OH, Mon Co these tombstone entries: John 1810-1898 Thomas** 1896 Joseph. L 1842-1926 Willie A.his wife 1850-1916 Thomas M. 1872-1890 In the GRAVESTONE INSCRIPTIONS CALAIS CEMETERY book that I am looking at, there is a double space as above between Willie and Thomas M so don't know if that had something to do with the way the graves were arranged or not. I also have this about John: Perhaps John was Mary's grandfather. If he was born in 1810, and she was born in 1873 that would have made him 63. However this clipping from the MONROE COUNTY OHIO NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS book, p 43 does not mention her: 13 Oct 1898: Burris John, born Mifflin Co PA 4 Apr 1810, to Noble Co OH at age 19y, married Louhana Carpenter about 1831, she died in Tyler Co, WV at age 77y , 6 children: 2 sons & 4 daughters - Wm died when 8y, Mrs. Rosanna Powell died in Davis twp in Noble Co OH, Mrs Louvina McKee died in MO in 1878, Mrs. Sarah Bishop lives in MO, Joseph M lives near Calais where John died 16 October, buried Calais Cemetery. I had thought that the "Thomas 1896" tombstone in the Calais Cemetery next to "John 1810-1898" could have been his grandson Thomas who was born and died in 1896, the son of Mary Adelia Burris and Thomas Leroy Latta. Mary and Tom had married 4 Oct 1894. Yet Mary is not listed in the article above. Mary and her husband Thomas are also buried in this cemetery in the Latta plot, but there is no baby there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Shutway" <rootbound@1st.net> To: <OHBELMON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 3:33 PM Subject: Re: [OHBELMON-L] "Belmont County Brick Wall" > I have been following a Burris line in Belmont Co. too. Reportedly - the mother of Esther Terry was Cheepoake Harris and the father of Esther Terry - one "fur trader" Terry. What the UNF would stand for I don't have a clue - but he was the FATHER and Cheepoake the mother. Will be nice to exchange notes with you. I will forward you my home email (under separate cover) later - so we may continue to correspond and exchange family history notes off line (if you would so like). No one (including me) seems to have many (if any) facts on Cheepoake Harris and "Fur Trader" Terry. It is rumored that she was a cherokee. If ever I find out more I will certainly be happy to share it with you. Would be interested in hearing anything you have to share on your Burris line - and I will be more than happy to do the same! :) Hazzrd's County of Henry County (Indiana) you would find interesting reading as pertains to the Burris' family (it is on microfiche). Regards! Anita
Cynthia Ann Burris was born Oct12, 1812 somewhere in Maryland. Her father, name unknown to me, is supposed to have been born 1786, also in Maryland. She married John WadeJuly 4, 1833 in Medina County, Ohio, and died July 30, 1884 in Clark County, Missouri. Her son, my gggrandfather John Burris Wade, was born Jan 12, 1843 in Clark county, Missouri.
