The sister was Rebecca (Becky Ann), born Jan 1854 (Tennessee?), who possibly married first a David Park 5 Oct 1873 Marshall County, Alabama. She married William M. Gilbreath in 1884. They had a son Clay and a daughter. The last my mother-in-law knew of them they were living in Los Angeles. There was a brother, George H., b Jun 1866 (Alabama, Georgia?), who married a Fannie or Sarah in 1890. They had children, all born in Alabama: Mary G. b Jan 1892, George R. b Aug 1984, Willie Ruth b Mar 1896, a boy b Nov 1898, Annie b 1901, Henry b 1903, and Mildred b 1908. In 1900 George and his family were in Jefferson County, Alabama. One record says father b Georgia mother Tennessee, another says both parents born Tennessee. George was listed as a house carpenter. My mother-in-law said he came to Texas once and built a house for Letty and Charles. He was apparently a wonderful cabinetmaker. Letty was born in 1847 and she and Charles supposedly met in Georgia. During the Civil War Union soldiers forced Letty and her mother to cook and feed the soldiers. Letty and Charles Henry Wright were married 28 Jun 1869 in Madison County, Alabama. That’s all I have. My mother-in-law was not real forthcoming with information…I think she feared I would find some of the skeletons in the closet! Every family has some, of course, and I found the one she didn’t want me to find but never told her. She has since passed away so I can’t find out anything else from her, but hopefully we can find a connection between the two families and help each other. Bev

Haven't got this connect completed yet. Any other deatils would help us figure out if our families are connected. Do you know where in Alabama they were, at least a county? Do you know who the siblings married? Do you have any other relatives for them, like cousins, aunts, uncles, parents? I'd love it if we could make a connection here.

We know that he died in the 1930's in Gypsum Colorado but there are no records of his death. There is a grave site in Gypsum. John, his son was born 3-14-1905 in Ohio. I have called for Johns SS record hoping that will give us a little more insite on Who Charles Burris was and Who is the mother to my Grandfather John. If you have any information that you feel would be helpful I would greatly appreciate it Thanks

I descend from Rebecca BURRIS through their daughter Rebecca VERTREES, who married John ALLISON. A couple of people have posted information elsewhere on ancestry.com about the marriage between Rebecca BURRIS and John VERTREES in @1765 - 1767 in Berkeley Co. (W)VA. According to The Handy Book, Berkeley Co. was formed from Frederick Co. VA 10 Feb 1772. Again according to The Handy Book, Frederick Co. (still in VA) was formed in 1738 but their marriage records are from 1782. I'm curious about what kind of proof has been found to establish the marriage in Berkeley Co. Has anyone looked at the land and tax lists for a Burris (all spellings) in either geographic area during that time period. I don't mean to be disputing anyone's word. Knowing what proof was used would really help in hunting for the parents of Rebecca. Thanks in advance. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK, rchrdcck@aol.com

(The town had formerly been spelled Stewartson.) The folks at the Shelby Co. Society (Historical? Genealogical?) were very helpful when I was there. The courthouse folks are also good about working with you and answering questions. You might search in Shelby Co. I don't know where you are but the Genealogical Institute of Mid America is a great workshop held every summer in July in Springfield. It is not too far from Shelby Co. Is this the Lettie Jane Burris who married Charles Henry Wright ? Her Parents are Henry R. Burris . Julie ? Siblings are John ca 1845, Rubien 1846, Lettie Jane may 1847, Samuel Paul ca 1849, Philip Green 5 Feb., 1855, Mary ca 1857, Thomas ca 1859, George H. ca. 1864, and James Edward 6 Mar 1866.
