Surnames: Tally Talley Snow Burris Burress Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/iBH.2ACIB/1012 Message Board Post: My great grandmother's name was Lovie Arkansas Kinard Weeks. She married James Garfield Weeks on April 2, 1908, in Colquitt County, Georgia. She was the daughter of George W. Kinard and Sarah Eveline Tally. Sarah is the one we are researching. She was born June 1851 in Georgia. My great grandmother said that her Mother, Sarah Eveline Tally, could hear the cannons going off when they were shelling Atlanta during the Civil War. That would have put them living around Atlanta in 1864. Sarah married George Kinard in February or March of 1868 in Berrien County, Georgia. My great grandmother wrote in the family bible that Sarah Eveline Tally's mother was Evelyn Snow, and daddy was no name Tally. Evelyn Snow according to family lore was full blooded Indian, presumably Cherokee. Beside Sarah Eveline Talley's name though it has John Burris, Allen Burris, Henry Burris, and Jane Burris listed as Sarah's half brother's and sister. There was also a picture of a lady in my great grandmother's possesion taken on a tin type with the name Tenasee Burris wrote in pencil on the bottom of the paper frame. I know that the lady has got to be kin, but I don't know exactly how. We found a Tennessee Burress (16) in the 1880 Blanco County, Texas census, living with her daddy, William Burress and mother, Eliza. Her siblings were, William (23), Bettie (21), Allen(13), & John (7). The census says that all the kids were born in Georgia. I think that this is the right family but I don't know how they tie in with my family. Any help would be greatly appeciated. I have pictures of Sarah Eveline Tally and Tenasee Burris if anyone is interested. My e-mail address in TC811@AOL.COM. Thanks, Tommy.
Hi, I joined this list hoping to get some help though I'm not even sure of the spelling of the name I need and Soundex has 43 different spellings. for Burris, Burress, Burrows, or whatever it is. I am looking for a LUCY BURRIS (?) who was born about 1796 in Virginia and married a WILLIAM STUMP around 1822. I have no idea what part of Virginia she came from but William was living in Maryland then, so it would probably be somewhere in that area. They moved to Ohio and settled in Allen County, living there the rest of their lives. Their children were Margaret, Nancy, Sopie, John, and William.. I can't imagine doing a search for 43 names, but if anyone knows anything about this Lucy it would be a tremendous help. Or if anyone knows which spelling would be most prevalent in this part of the country at that time. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Gracie

They lived in Sequin, Luling, Lufkin and Burke - He worked for the railroad, I have been told. One of their children was by grandfather, Joseph. Joe had two sons, Harley and David. I would like to make contact with other family members. I would also appreciate any other information that anyone is willing to share concerning the Texas Burris line. This is the last major line in my family that I am working on. I do not have much information. I do have a letter from Chlora Burris Renfro that gives some of the basic line information. Thanks for any help!

Re; Nehamiah Burris from Delaware Some time around 1800, some members of the family changed their name from Burroughs (Burrows) to Burris, either intentionally or otherwise. Some were not literate. I am descended from one Edward Burroughs (Burrows) through a son William and a grandson Benjamin (Burroughs in Delaware, Burris in Ohio) Some of the properties owned by William and Benjamin were located near the border between Kent and Sussex counties on the Mayrland state line.
