I have the book and have visited the site. One of the pictures is the same that I have in "Father Wore Gray" by Lela Whitton Hagarty. It was written with the San Antonio Real Daughters of the Confederacy Club - 1963. Grandmother gave the author Granddaddy Burris (Ben. Franklin) papers, which she lost. In the article, it states that he was a private in Co. C. Eight Reg. Texas Cavalry, known as Terry's Rangers. It also has copies of two of his poems - "The Battle of Shiloh" and " The Texas Ranger". My mother also told me that they used Granddaddy Burris at the model of the Trail Drivers in Austin. I have tried to located it but have not been able to at this time. Hope this helps you.

Burris supposedly served in during the Civil War. I now think that his being on the roster is in error. If you will do a word search for " Terry's Texas Rangers" you will find quite a bit on Benjamin, including a couple of pictures of him. Also, try the " Trail Drivers of Texas", there is a story about him in it.

Which I found out after painstakingly searching the census records for Josephine and much later coming across Josie and I found out that that's what everyone called her. You are correct about her being born in Arkansas. I don't know if you know but Hulda and Joseph were married in Arkansas on 7 Oct 1869. As far as pictures go, we have several of Little Granny(Josie) and some of her brothers and sisters. I don't have them yet, but I am getting them Friday so I could send them to you sometime next week. I also have a bunch of old photographs that aren't labeled so I am trying to figure out who they are. Maybe you can help me with those. Josie lived to be 92. My mother told me she knows there was a sister named Bettie (whom Hulda was living with during the 1920 census-she was 72) Annie, and Walter. We have a picture of 8 of the children but not the names. Maybe it would be easier if we met and looked at pictures, because I have a lot. If you l! ive to far, I guess we'll just make due. Here's my e-mail address Totken@msn.com.

I also have some pictures without names, perhaps you can help place them. I am hoping that you might have a picture of my grandfather Charles Dawson Gibson? Please Email to me at Brwtall@cs.com. I will send the information I have to you. Your grandmother was listed as Josie F, but listed her birth place as Arkansas. I look forward to hearing from you. Carolyn

Surnames: Burress/Burris, Wood Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iBH.2ACIB/872.1.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Here's what I've come up with. My great grandmother was their daughter Josephine born 1875. Joseph Buress spelled his name Burress even though the children all spelled their names with "is". He was born in Illinois. His wife (Hulda Elizabeth Wood) was born in Missouri in either 1847/48. They were married in Independence County Arkansas 7 Oct 1869. She was living during the 1920 Census with her duaghter Bessie and son in law. At that time she was 72. She was not on the 1930 census so I know she died before then. I have a picture of them together and also one of each of them when they were babies. I also have some really old pictures that I haven't found the connection to yet. If you want me to e-mail you the pictures, I'd be happy to. Do you know anything I haven't mentioned? If so I would appreciate the help. This has been slow going patching this together, but it is reliable.
