I'll give you another email address for purpose of sending me the pic (I will email it to you). That's in the event that you can scan the photo and send to me. Many thanks! Hope to be in touch! Since the rolls were collected between 1898-1914 she would be a bit to young for your Nancy. The other Nancy Burris was in the Choctaw roll as age 60 , 1/4 blood, card no. 3493 but no roll number. Since there was frequent crossing over between the Choctaw and Chickasaw, this might be a possibility. I found no reference to her in my records. A good place to look is http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/ Good luck

I have books on some raider outfits and some cavalry, but they talk about the big names: Stuart, Mosby, etc. Have any of you tried looking up the history of the Texas Rangers? If I remember right, the current Rangers are 'descended' from the Rangers of the Civil War. And, I think the Rangers were around before the Civil War. Niki

The unit was formed to take action against locat bandits and indians. The bandit they were looking for was Cortina. Eventually, John Ford, a commanding officer of the Second Cav. was able to put an end to Cortina.

Not much research has been done about them. I became interested because I had quite a few relatives that served in it. B. F. Burris is listed on the roster , but I now think that it is in error. Burris served with a group of local rangers from Karnes Co. Texas and later the entire unit was mustered into the Second Cav. But evidently the men had the option of enlisting in other units, which Burris evidently did. His only record in the Second is a parole which all CSA troops received at the end of the war. http://freepages.military.rootsweb.com/~yarbrough/

    2. Hi All... have been looking at the information on Shannon Burris, then the lady that mentioned a Harriet Burris...which triggered my brain. My grandmother had a sister named Harriet..so I got out my copy of a family tree that I have and there was Harriet and Shannon Burris. Someone mentioned that Shannon's parents were Benjamin F. Burris and Jane Johnston...I have more information on the line back further if you don't already have it. I also could give you the names of Shannon's brothers and sisters if you would want them. Benjamin B. Burris and my John Burris were brothers. I believe Benjmin moved to Texas around 1836 with his family. My John moved north to Wisconsin about the same time..maybe a little later, but he was there by 1840. Let me know if you would like more information...send to my e-mail please. Sally
