    1. [BURRIS] birth place of your Burris man
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: burries/burris, hamner, dollins Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/iBH.2ACIB/1027 Message Board Post: HI! In rereading your info I see that our "oldest" Burries/Burris man and yours would have been about the same age. Where was your man born? Ours, my husband's g,g,grandfather, william T. Burries, was born in MD, as were both his parents. He died in Franklin, IN, in 1901, at about 70. So, I figured he'd have been born about 1830, or so. We haven't been able to find where he's buried. His wife, Margaret V (for Vandivier, I think) Watson was born in VA, as were her parents. She's buried in Brown Co, IN. There're several unmarked graves in the same cemetery, one of which might be Wm. T's. Wm. T and wife had 6 children, as did one of two of his c'ren. Most of the other generations only had 2 or 3. my husband was an only child, but had 6 c'ren with his first wife. I look forward to hearing from you. Mary Burries mgmmrd@mindspring.com

    1. Re: [BURRIS] BURRIS, Burress, Burrus, & maybe another spelling?
    2. Raine This is from History of Washington County, Ohio 1788-1881 by H. Z. Williams "The second family in the settlement was that of Benjamin Burris, who came from Grand View in the spring of 1818. His wife was Susan Riggs, and they had no children when they came, but during their residence on Archer's fork, eleven children were born to them, viz: Mary, Johnson, Basil, Jackson, Lemuel, Benson, Elizabeth, Harriet and Lavina (twins), Volney, and Adaline. Two other children were born in Texas, whither the family moved in 1839. About the year 1828 Mr. Burris built the first mill in the settlement, a saw-mill, situated just below the mouth of Coal Run. After the freshet of 1832 he added to it the machinery of a grist-mill. Burris was a lumberman, running his lumber down Archer. The usual destination of the lumber was Cincinnati. He was also a stock raiser and trader. He made a trip or two to New Orleans in the latter business. He was one of the three that built the Templeton mill below the mouth of Archer's Fork. He was a Free Mason. His oldest child, Mary was born in 1818, and was the first person born in the settlement." Will

    3. My Grandmother was Mary Burris and they came to Texas (Bosque, Somervell county area) form Georgia. At least that is what she always said. Her father was Andrew Johnson Burris and he seems to be kind of a mystery. Is this the same line? It is my opinion, what has been missing is the link between the children of "old" Elijah Burris b 1761 & Jesse Burris b Bet. 1760 - 1770. I don't believe the Burris researcher's has ever established whose children belong to whom? I think maybe we can all agree that the possibility exist that Elijah Burris & Jesse Burris were brothers. They were the only 2 Burris's listed in the early East TN Taxpayers. So the "preponderance of evidence" is about all the proof I can produce! Old Elijah Burris remained in TN most of the time but may have traveled to IN, in or about 1830? He was either missed in 1830 census records, or he traveled to another area. By 1840 he again appeared in Campbell Co, TN Census Records. Jesse Burris is proven leaving TN: Anderson Co, TN Court Minutes 4-146 Jesse Burns (Burris) was released 1827 from paying poll tax as he had removed. Here is where I question the situation that presents doubt? Jesse Burris maybe had children that didn't remove to Sullivan Co, IN with him? Some of his children maybe were old enough to be married with families & remained behind in TN??? I have many speculative children for Elijah Burris in Anderson & Campbell Co, TN. I'm very skeptical they can all be his??? I would appreciate any information on the children of Elijah Burris & Jesse Burris. I have spent about 20 years trying to sort them out. I don't feel I'm any closer in my judgment of separating them now than I was in the beginning. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Fay email: fburris1@bellsouth.net
