In a summary of court proceedings transcribed by Weynette Parks Haun, Johnston County, North Carolina, County Court Minutesm 1787 thru 1792, Book iv, the following entry was made on March 1791: Ordered that John Burns Orphan of Precillah Burns be bound apprentice to Bryan Whitfield Espr. until he arrive to the age of Twenty One Years, he being eleven Years Old the 9 day of May last to be taught the Business of a Cooper, whereupon Indentures were executed.
