    1. [BURNS-L] Thomas Burns in Bentonville AR
    2. Lorene Noenning mentioned a Thomas Burns in Bentonville AR, the son of a John W. Burns of Bedford Co TN, later Maury Co. There was a Revolutionary War vet John Burns in Bedford (born in Baltimore Co MD about 1753, lived in Guilford and Rockingham Counties NC until 1807 when he moved to Bedford Co TN). This John Burns (we are not aware of a middle initial) had a son, Thomas Patrick Burns, and other children. John Burns died in 1837 in Bedford Co TN; Thomas Patrick Burns died in Bedford Co TN in 1838 and as far as we know did not go to Bentonville, though his widow and some, if not all, of his children did. Thomas Patrick Burns married Mary Ann Sewell Knott, the daughter of William Knott and Elizabeth Frazier, both from NC and both buried in Bell Buckle Cem., Bedford Co TN. The children of Thomas Patrick Burns were William Burns, John H. Burns, Robert L. Burns, Thomas Knott Burns, and James P. Burns. When William turned 21, he was made the guardian of his brothers in Bedford Co TN in 1851. William moved to Bentonville AR in the 1850's and to Bell Co TX in the early 1860s, where he served in the Confederate army. William's mother had also moved to Bentonville AR, but stayed there rather than move to TX. At least two of William's brothers, James P. and John H. lived and stayed in AR. William had a son, Thomas Andrew Burns (1853 - 1933) who lived in Bell Co. Incidentally, part of Bedford Co became Marshall Co in 1836, not Maury Co. This is from an excellent county map program that shows the history of each state's shifting county boundaries. The program is called Animap and it is sold by The Gold Bug. The Gold Bug web site, www.goldbug.com, has a demo of the program. Bill Burns [email protected]
