    3. There may be a simple answer to the Burns mystery In my research, back to 1833, I found the original manuscripts, deeds, etc. all said Byrns. It seems, in my family anyway; that they all changed to the common Burns around 1899. 3. Like you, My "Burns" ancestor is either Byrne or Byrnes. There are two Margaret Byrne(s) in my tree, both a generation apart. The first married Patrick Donnelly in County Armagh, Parish Forkhill about 1826. They emigrated to Canada, about 1839-42. The second Margaret Byrne(s) married Patrick's son John Owen (or Owen John) on April 20, 1852 in St Edwards Catholic Church in Westport, Ontario, Canada. John Owen's wife was from County Louth, Dundalk Parish, parents were Bridget and Brian Byrne(s). Probably no tie in, but one always hopes??
