Seems like all Burns people want to be related to the poet. One of my old poetry books states that his father's name was William Burness. I have Burns on both maternal and paternal lines. on my maternal line, Dennis/David Burns was born in Ohio in 1830, parents from "England" according to the 1850 census. Don't have anything else on him other than that he married Nancy Turner in Ohio and had 4 daughters. My paternal line must have a Burns somewhere as there is a William Chalmers Burns Fergus, brother of my 3g-grandfather (no birth date, but parents Alexander Fergus and Elizabeth Cleland married 1816 in Kilsyth, Scotland outside of Glasgow).
