Since this list seems to be really active now, I am going to attempt another post: I am looking for a James Burns (son of Stephan and Ann Burns from Ireland) that immigrated to the US in about 1879- This man seems to have married or cohabitated with an Ellen Slamon/Nellie Shannon (she seems to have used both these names) and produced the following children: Patrick, William, TJ, Stephan, Helen. At some point, around 1900, everyone started using the name Brady - and I have a death certificate for a James Brady, age 37, on Nov. 13th, 1903, who would be the same age as the James Burns. 3 other children were born to Ellen Brady after his death, and their last name was kept as Brady. They lived on the lower east side of Manhattan. Does this make any sense to anyone out there? It could be they split and Ellen lived with Brady, but the ages were the same which I find coincidental.
