Searching for family of Robert Burns, b. Scotland, and Sarah Campbell Burns, b. Ireland. They resided in Stormont County, Osnabruck township, Ontario, May 8, 1840, where my great-grandfather William Miles Burns was born. Siblings could be Amanda, James and John. Any help on this family would be appreciated. Did you ever get your 'home p/c" working??? Nothing new here, some rain, not much. Everyone around us is flooding out, etc., but not us. We just had a really good rain for 2 hrs. which we needed. I had called Debbie Sat., was Norms birthday, but she was crying so hard I told her I'd call back - after I kept asking if I should come up, whats going on, etc. etc., like panicsville! She said Norm and Haylee were out in the front pasture burying her horse - the one she rode in the shows!!!! So I called Sun. and she said they had had a really bad storm on Fri., but just before that, Haylee and her boyfriend went out to the car for something and they heard this pop, looked around and a bolt of lightening hit Harbor, the horse, killed him NOW, and knocked the donkey backwards. Then the storm hit along with hail and wind. So Sat. the boyfriend drove a big back hoe down there and that's what they were doing when I called, dug a big hole and buried him. Nooo, not the boyfriend. I kept worrying about her all night - Carol, she is out there with all those animals every day, loving and kissing on them, and talking to them so it is like a kid when something happens to them. Well, Mon. I got up and decided I was going up there because Haylee would be back in school and Norm at work. Before I got on the porch, she is running out and throwing her arms around me and crying all over again. "Soooo, glad you came up, I kept telling them yesterday I wanted my mommy" (yeahhh, I can belive that!) Said she had decided to come down here the next day. But I guess it helped that I did go up, I know it helped ME. Norm said both back hooves on the horse were burnt black. Well, one good thing came of it, he was insured! When you pay $2-3,000 for one they'd better be insured. Chester, the donkey, seemed O.K., but Debbie said neither one of them had moved since the horse was struck - they stood right next to him and even when they were burying him. Well, when I drove up the lane, they were both standing by the mound. Do you think they know what happened, I mean that he is dead? Weird. So that's the highlight of my MONTH. Mick. P.S. Yes, that picture was U.Scott standing in that big ole field - do you suppose THAT was the HOUSE they lived in??
Darla, Yes, Chet b. 04-11-26 and d. 03-17-66. Frank's dates I do not know and that is because I can't get beyond my gpa Chet. I was told that my ggpa Frank died in Alaska. Shannon Burns
Since this list seems to be really active now, I am going to attempt another post: I am looking for a James Burns (son of Stephan and Ann Burns from Ireland) that immigrated to the US in about 1879- This man seems to have married or cohabitated with an Ellen Slamon/Nellie Shannon (she seems to have used both these names) and produced the following children: Patrick, William, TJ, Stephan, Helen. At some point, around 1900, everyone started using the name Brady - and I have a death certificate for a James Brady, age 37, on Nov. 13th, 1903, who would be the same age as the James Burns. 3 other children were born to Ellen Brady after his death, and their last name was kept as Brady. They lived on the lower east side of Manhattan. Does this make any sense to anyone out there? It could be they split and Ellen lived with Brady, but the ages were the same which I find coincidental. Gineen Brady
This comes up every now and then. The different spellings were for most part phonetic spellings of the same name as they moved to different areas and spelt it according to the local dialect pronunciation. On top of that when people moved to America in those days the customs and immigration would do the same thing or shorten a complicated name to make it pronounceable. Bernstein's were changed to Burns at customs so they would have had no trouble with Bierne to Burns. Chris Burns ----- Original Message ----- From: "Francine G. From that, I'm assuming that other Irish families with the surname BEIRNE also adopted the Americanized name of BURNS. > Does anyone know anything about this? > Fran Weeks > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >

Hi Cheryl , This may not be what you are looking for but this is some info that I have. "William Burns, born about 1810, died about 1865, married Jana Cotton, Dec. 4th 1845, in Rutherford County TN. After William's death in 1865 Jana and her family moved to Humphrey County, TN. William and Jana had THREE KNOWN CHILDREN, William Burns b. 1846; Green Burns b. 1847 and Mary Burns b. 1849". That is all I have on this family. No mention of Columbus Burns but could he have been an UNKNOWN child of William and Jana? And, Charles, can you supply any more information on your George Burns? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don and Cheryl" <dlacla@ecsis.net> To: <BURNS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2003 7:37 AM Subject: Re: [BURNS] Burns Families of Williamson and Perry Counties, TN > I am looking for parents of my great-great grandfather (Green Burns) who was > from Wayne CO, TN which is next to Perry CO. I am looking for parents of my great-great grandfather (Green Burns) who was from Wayne CO, TN which is next to Perry CO. He had a brother columbus. They both married sisters. I was wondering if these names ring a bell with you since your family was Perry CO. I have find where some of Green' s son spelled their last name as BURNES.
