    3. Ed, I just read your page about your Burns family from Belfast. Maybe there is a connection to my mothers family. My great grandfather was named Michael Burns. He was born in Port Carbon Pa. about 1838. I believe his father ( but have not yet proven it) was Patrick Burns who came to Pottsville Pa. from Belfast in the 1840s( I do have immigration papers on this Patrick. He states that in 1848 he was 25 years old) My gr. grand Michael married Ellen ( Connelly). They lived in Mach Chunk for some years, also lived in Eckley( their son Michael was born there), lived in Ashland where my grandmother & her sisters were born. Mary "Mame" m. John Doyle( Ashley), Ellen m. Miles Burke( Wilkes-Barre), Frances m. George Beatty ( Ashley) & Margaretta m.James O'Neill ( Ashley) My great grandfather was in the Civil war. I have his pension papers . On his marriage cert. He was married in St. Joseph's church in Ashland ( Schuylkill Co.) & his witnesses were William Burns & Mary Carroll. If you might see any connection, please mail me at [email protected] I will be away for a good part of the day but will write later. 3. This might fit in somewhere: Daniel Burns, from Belfast, Ireland came to Ottawa, Canada in 1826. He worked building the Rideau Canal from Ottawa to the U.S. border until 1832. In 1833 he married Ann Crosby in Ottawa and they headed off to Pennsylvania. See: http://www3.sympatico.ca/ag.lewis/danburns.htm for more info. ... 1. [BURNS-L] William W. Burns 1829-1903 Cumberland Co KY
    2. Trying to find parents/siblings of William W. Burns. Have been told his father may be "Berry Burns". William was discharged from CSA with disability due to contracting measles which left his lungs and hearing damaged. He drew pension from government "He was in C. War in 5th Calvary under Capt. Bradshaw. Enl. 10/4/1861 dis. 4/28/1862 disabled due to contracting measles in service" William married Sarah Jane Norris (daug of John J. Norris & Jane Murphy) on 11 Oct 1852 in Cumberland Co where they remained the rest of their lives. On a census, William stated both parents born WV, but WV not a state at the time of Parents' births, so probably VA. Name is found as Burns, Burnes, (and even Barnes) on various records. Any help would be appreciated. Happy to share info. Cherie in Indy

I know that I have some Burns cousins that settled in San Antonio, and have a GGG grandfather named Willoughby Burns who married a Marie Romero in Louisiana (1839, I think). They had a son named John C. Burns who married a Marie Breaux, but you may be descended from a line further back. The oldest Burns I know is John Burns who married Sarah McWilliams around 1800. The name "John W." has been taken by several descendents. (One of Willoughby's sisters married a Robinson). If any of this sounds familar, let me know! Basil Burns > > -- Br. Basil Burns, O.S.B. 3. I am trying to locate information on John BURNS. He was born in Ireland, and married to Catherine Barry, also of Ireland. This information was obtained from their daughter, Sarah (BURNS) O'Neil's death certificate. Sarah Burns was born in Freeport, IL in 1862. The Stephenson County Census of 1870 lists a John Burns, age 50 born in Indiana or Ireland, apparently the name is unreadable. Also in the household are: Ann, 45 John,14 Patrick, 12 Sarah, 10 Margaret, 5 This family was located in Loran township in 1870. The family seems similar to the family I am seeking, could Ann have been Catherine Ann? And Sarah's age is 2 years off. All the children were born in Illinois. Does anyone have info on Catherine Barry and John Burns? Thank You, Laura

When he arrived at maturity, he began building and running flat boats, which he continued for several years. In 1849, he located at Montezuma, and ran a ferry boat over the Wabash River for several years. He finally engaged in the manufacture of a superior quality of fire brick at Hillsdale. He associated himself with Mr. S.P. HANCOCK, who still carries on the business, which has grown to large proportions. Mr. Burns died a few years ago, honored and respected by all who knew him.
