Hello, I am trying to find where in Michigan my step-great grandfather and my great grandmother lived and died. John Burns married my great grandmother Ellen Garvey Malone 22 Feb 1909* in Cleveland, OH and then moved to Michigan and nobody ever heard from them again. *SOURCE Marriage Record Application No. 61133 dated Feb 20, 1909 State of Ohio, Cuyahoga County Return Certified that on the 22nd day of February 1909 James Burns and Ellen Malone were married by Rev. F. A. Malloy Vol 72 p. 34. John was born in Dublin, Ireland 15 Jan 1864* and died 1916 (although, I have nothing to prove the death date and frankly, do not know where it came from). We are assuming that he died in Michigan. According to the Marriage Record, John's parents were Thomas Burns and Julia Christian and John was a fireman. Also according to the marriage record, Ellen's parents were Michael Garvey and Ellen Donahue. Ellen Garvey (b. circa 1855) married my great grandfather, Michael Malone probably around 1875 in Ireland. They emigrated to Aliquippa, PA and then moved to Cleveland, OH. Michael died at age 42 in Cleveland on 3 Mar 1890** and Ellen raised their seven children by herself. After the children were out of the house she married John Burns and moved to Michigan with him. ** Source [email protected] Cuyahoga County Archives, No,. 1160 I am hoping that by finding John Burns, I will be able to get some information on Ellen Garvey Malone Burns. Hello all, It has been awhile since I last listed my BURNS history, so here goes once again. The Irish history part was given to me without documentation by an Irishman. Michael m Mary O'ROURKE, he was 28 and she 16, not sure what the date was but first child was b. 1804. They lived in Co. Kildare, Kildare and worked for Lord Browne of Tara. Listed children: Patrick Joseph b. 21 Oct, 1804 Eliza b. 2 Dec, 1805 Catherine b. 15 Jan, 1810 (I question the twenty years between the last two) *William b. 1832 (*my ancestor), d. 16 Oct, 1902, Allendale, (Barre) Simcoe Co., Ontario Edward b. 1834 Wm. went to Canada and m. Elizabeth O'BRIEN in 1860. For over a year I have been working on posting an index of names for the marriage and death notices printed in the Vermont Chronicle, an old newspaper that was published between 1826 and 1896. The notices cover towns state wide, and also cover other places, including, but not limited to: Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Canadian Provinces and beyond. The death notices are not full obituaries as we know them today, but sometimes contain other useful information besides the location, name and age of the person. The marriage notices usually just note the bride and groom, but sometimes names of parents. Currently I have the Indexes for 1826-1850 online, with more added as time permits. I too am at a dead end, Mathew J. Burns death cert says he was born in Indiana 4-18-1884. We think his father's name is John and came from Ireland as the 1920 census says both parents came from Ireland. he is listed in the Cicero Township with his wife Jessie, children Raymond 7, Reginald 6, Adeline 3, Earl 1 3/12. Census is vol 127, E.D. 47, sheet 11 line 51. Obituary says he had a brother William and two sisters, Irene and Elizabeth. He married Jessie Strokal in Chicago on January 12, 1911. She was born in Wisconsin and we were told she was adopted. Maybe on an Orphan Train? Hope someone can help. Thank you. Pat Burns
