With Burney and his unnamed 46 year old wife, were"Elisabeth Arrie, (opheline) 1, and Datis "Negrisse da dit Burney". Also arriving on May 7th, 1797 was William Burney, fils, 28 years old, his wife, and sons Jean, Jacque and William. (John, James, and William). An undated "indenture" paper we have in our possession, claims that "Hannah" an 11 year old indentured servant came with the Sr. Burney to the Ouachita, yet she does not appear on the list of those arriving on May 7. According to this document, Hannah's indenture to William Sr. came from, his son John Burney, who had acquired the indentured Hannah from William England. We know that Hannah was born in February of 1786, and we know she petitioned the courts for release from her bond in March of 1815. Only her first apprenticeship "paper" is dated, May 29, 1786. The subsequent transfers have no date, and like the first, have no State, County or officiators name affixed. Does anyone recognize this William Burney, Sr., and know where he lived previous to 1797? We know that he joined the Baron de Bastrop party of migrants in Louisville, Kentucky--but we don't know if he lived there, or just met the group there. The migration trail led them to New Madrid, then Natchez, and finally the Ouachita Valley. Is the William Burney Sr., related to the Robert Burney who settled in the Delta, Madison Parish, Louisiana area?
