Hi Anna, My mother-in-law's maiden name is Burney (that's why I started this list, i.e. to get on her good side ;-)). Her father was Richard Andrew Burney of Copiah County, MS. His father was Alonzo Pleasant Burney who lived "on the Big Black river in Mississppi" as I am told. Have no idea in which county or town, however. Alonzo and his wife Alice Montora Tillman had six children: Fannie Talitha, Benjamin Tillman, Oscar Hackett, Mary Emma, Alice and Richard Andrew. Alonzo died two years before his wife and she died when the eldest child, Fannie, was only 14 years old. My m-i-l tells me that Fannie and Richard raised the children themselves after their parent's death. I don't have dates and locations for these Burney's and as my m-i-l is 90 years old she has trouble remembering them. I suspect that there is a connection between your B. Burney's family and Alonzo's family but will have to do a lot more research before I can confirm that. If I do find anything I'll certainly let you know.
