I have not been able to connect them to the William Burney Sr. who migrated to the Ouachita in 1797. Interestingly, a few weeks back I noticed a query somewhere that spoke of a Burney traveling to the Washita, but did not mention a territory or state. It crossed my mind that Washington and Ouachita/Washita could easily be confused. William Burney, Sr. can into posession, at some place and point in time of two people I am interested in, Darcas a young slave or free born black girl, and Hannah an indentured servant born of a white mother in North Carolina. Both girls were born in 1786. Hannah was indentured first to a guy called England, and then to John Burney (who was supposed to have been murdered by the slave), who finally transfered the indenture papers to his father William Burney, Sr. William Burney's arriaval on the Ouachita in 1797 is documented, as is that of his adult son William Jr. Though Burney family researchers claim that William left Kentucky with his sons, we've found no proof of anyone other than William Jr. traveling with him to the Ouachita. His son John was supposedly living further south near Rapides Parish, which at that time touched the then huge Ouachita Parish. Ouachita then extended south to the Red River and east to the Mississippi....so there are all kinds of possibilities as to where John was living and murdered. More than you want to know---but I am desparate to track this Burney family, and of course, if this John was really murdered, there is the possibility of good information about his life, family, background and estate. Thanks
