    2. wildeman1
    3. As Listmanager for this mailing list, I have been receiving a lot of email address bounces recently because of the demise of @home.com. If you did not unsubscribe your old @home.com address before you changed over to your new email address then you are still subscribed as an @home.com subscriber and that is what is causing the bounces. If you are a current or former @home.com subscriber and did not unsubscribe prior to assuming your new email address, please email me, mailto:wildeman1@cox.net, and I will unsubscribe your old @home.com address manually. In your message be sure to give me your old @home.com address and which mailing list you were on (because I administer eight mailing lists). Don't forget to subscribe under your new email address if you want to stay on the list. Tom Wilde List Administrator

    1. [BURNEY] Re: Scandal in Guilford Co.
    2. I don't know anything about the scandal involving Jane and the baby, but we do have a bit of a scandal in our Burney branch, who are from Randolph Co., NC. It seems Lindsey Mabry Burney (according to the information we have) was involved in a duel with a man over the other man's wife. Lindsey won and was shipped to Texas by his father or perhaps his guardian. He never made it to Texas, but settled eventually in Alabama. The only problem we have found with the information that has been handed down is that Lindsey's fight would have occurred no earlier than 1840. Dueling was outlawed many, many years before. Does anyone have information on this branch of the family? Lindsey's parents were David M. Burney and Mary Stafford. David's parents were William Burney, Sr., and Mary Maiben. On second thought, there might be a connection to the other scandal. Jane "Ginny" Stafford married Josiah Elzevan Burney. It seems to me I remember that Jane and Josiah divorced, but I could be wrong. Could this have a connection? Sharon

Surnames: Lackey, Burney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yAH.2ACIB/187 Message Board Post: Does anyone know anything about the scandal with Jane Burney and her illegitamate child? This is listed in the Buffalo Settlement Presbyterian records where she lists the father as William Burney. Something about the baby being born in the loft above the shed then something about girtls sneaking off the bury pigs which turns out to be an infant.. I think these are the Burney clan that married into the Lackey line. I'm looking for the LAckeys and these Burneys. Thanks

    1. [BURNEY] Wisconsin research
    2. Tom Wilde
    3. If any of you are doing research in Wisconsin then you will be interested in the following email I received today. --------------------------------------------------------------- Subect: Holiday Greetings from Wisconsin Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2001 15:57:36 -0600 From: "Michael Edmonds" <miedmonds@whs.wisc.edu> This is just a note to say, "Thanks!" Earlier this year you placed an order with the Wisconsin Historical Society's fledgling Online Genealogical Research Service (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/genealogy/ogrs/index.html). I hope we were able to meet your needs. At the end of next month we'll roll out an improved site which will provide Wisconsin Civil War soldiers' records as well as birth, marriage and death certificates. Meanwhile, I want to call your attention to a large - - and entirely free - - genealogy and local history resource that we're just finishing. "Wisconsin Local History & Biography Articles" contains almost 50,000 pages of Wisconsin newspaper stories published between 1860 and 1940. You can search for people, topics such as "German immigrants," or you can simply browse articles from the town your ancestors lived in. Give it a try at http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/wlhba/index.asp (and have fun). In 2002 we expect to gradually unveil an enormous, free database of Wisconsin personal names for you to use. This index will point to selected obituaries, biographical sketches in county histories, listings in professional directories, and articles about people in local papers, and you'll be able to order copies of most of them online. Again, thank you for your support in 2001 as we got our new Web service up and running. Please tell your friends and family with Wisconsin ancestors to give it a try, too. Finally, best wishes for happy holidays and a safe and prosperous new year. Sincerely yours, Michael Edmonds Deputy Director, Library & Archives Division Wisconsin Historical Society
