However; these are names that I do not have in my data base of over 2700 names. Should these names appear, I have printed out your query and will answer at that time. Thanks. Leland

My 6X great grandfather was John Burney, born appx. 1725 in Ireland. He married Catherine Lackey. I don't know a thing about the scandal you mentioned, but I am intrigued. My John was the father of William Burney. William's son David had a son named Lindsey Mabry Burney. Lindsey's daughter Margaret married A. J. Davis. A.J. was my grandfather's grandfather. I don't know if any of this is helpful to you, but I would love to hear from you.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yAH.2ACIB/194 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on David Burney of Wade County, Indian Territory (Oklahoma). According to the Choctaw Nation rolls of 1896, his father was "Ho-tubbee" and his mother was "Siney". According to the 1885 Wade County Choctaw census, David Burney's wife was Betty and his children at that time were George (11 yrs), Charles (10 yrs), Albert and Alsart (twins; 8 yrs), Phebe (5 yrs), and Josephine (2 yrs). According to the Choctaw Nation rolls of 1896, David's first wife was Elizabeth Anderson "Bettie/Betty" and in addition to the children listed above, they had a daughter named Rosa b. abt 1875. According to the Choctaw Nation rolls of 1896, David (listed as a full-blood Choctaw), now 56 yrs old, is living with the children of his second wife, Susan Burney. The children are: Abigail (8 yrs), Frances (5 yrs), Mary R. (3 yrs), and Albert McDaniel, his step-son (12 yrs). David Burney had died by 1901. In 1902, the husband of Josephine Burney (David's daughter from his first marriage) sought to claim the land allottment of Abigail Burney (David's daughter from his second marriage). Supposedly Pauline Burney Brightman, in her book The Burneys From North Carolina, lists David Burney and his wife, Elizabeth (last name unknown) as the parents of Alfred Lee Burney, George Burney, Frank Burney, John L. Burney, Abigail Burney, Sarah Burney, Charles Burney, and Mary R. Burney. It seems, however, that there is some confusion about the accuracy and completeness of this list.

Christopher married Nancy P. Smith of New Hampshire in 1841 in Massachusetts. According to vital records, Christopher and Nancy had nine children - one of which is my great grandfather (Thomas Simon Birney).
Joseph Burney had a daughter Jane BURNEY who was married 1837 in Liverpool, England. Marriage certificate says (as of 1837) Joseph was employed with the Docks Police. His daughter was 20 in 1837 so Joseph must have been born before 1797. Is any one familiar with this Burney? Thank you, Mike
