Surnames: Burney, Baker, Whitehead Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/yAH.2ACIB/202 Message Board Post: In searching for my Baker g.grandmother's parents, I found a note in her Bible that Mary Georgia Burney died Nov. 7, 1901 at Long Beach, Mississippi. I believe that Mary Georgia was her mother since I also found through her obituary that my g. grandmother, Johanna Lenard Baker, was born in Darien, McIntosh Co., Georgia, and in the Darien 1860 census of, I find Mary E. (?) Baker 24, with Jn. (the fancy script could be Tw) L. Baker 31 court (?) officer, and children, Edward B. Baker 3, Cornelia L. J. Baker 8/12. Also in the household is Wm M. W. Baker 21, clerk. In the 1870 census of Darien, Willis A. Burney 29 brick mason, has Mary G. 30, W.A., Jr. 7 months, E.B. Baker 13, C. L. Baker 10, and Sarah L. 7. Even with the differences, I think that this is my Mary G. who has remarried. As further proof, g. grandmother, who married Charles T. Whitehead, named one of her children "Willis Arthur Whitehead." Can anyone tell me anything about this family?

Actually, quite a few years. Remember, I'm Pauline's daughter. My grandfather was Elbert Burney. I think it was when we were in S.C. that I spoke with you last about the Burney family reunion. I have found a bit of info since. Just recently I found on the 1880 census where James Jackson was born in Missouri. Next door to him was James B. Burney with two nephews (John and William). Possibly James brothers. They were all born in Missouri. That would account for them possibly living with an uncle after their parents died. Keep in touch. alice stroud
