This is for subscribers to the Burney and Grantham Mailing Lists: RootsWeb.com has a new mail program called "Mailman"; it replaces the old "SmartList" program. All RootsWeb.com mailing lists are being migrated from SmartList to Mailman in an alphabetical schedule that will last about a week. Both BURNEY and GRANTHAM have now been migrated. The only change from the old system is that now you do not need to use the "-L" when sending posts to the list. Just send your posts to: BURNEY@rootsweb.com or GRANTHAM@rootsweb.com This is the same whether you are subscribed in mail mode (the old "-L") or digest mode ("-D"). If you have any questions please email me at: BURNEY.admin@rootsweb.com or GRANTHAM.admin@rootsweb.com. Tom Wilde Admin for BURNEY and GRANTHAM Mailing Lists

And I have a Mariah Burney who was married to a Sam. She had about 10 children and was from Bloomingdale Ga.
From 1791 to 1891 a Burney family were the proprietors of the Royal Naval Academy at Gosport, Hampshire, England. The school was founded by William Burney who died circa 1822 and was then carried on in turn by Henry, Charles & Edward Burney, said to be William's sons. I'm not related to this family or to any Burney. I'm trying to gather information about the Academy. Is anyone researching this family? Thanks, Peter Gawn Sechelt, B.C., Canada.

My great-grandfather, Anderson had a brother named Elbert. I strongly believe he it may be your grandfather because they are from the same area Brundidge which is in Pike county alabama. Anderson and Elbert were the children of Prince and Jennie Burney who were of African american and Indian ancestry. As well, during the course of my research, I have run across reference to your grandfather Dowling and uncles, Wayman and Ceaphus. Please contact me for additional information. My contact information is K. Burney, P.O. Box 216326, Sacto, CA 95821. Look forward to hearing from you.
At the Willow Wild cemetery in Bonham there is a Burney family section maybe ten or so graves. I have photos of the stones which I can send you if interested. I am not related but my grgrgr grandmother Sarah/Sallie Piner was involved with the Burney family in Bonham. Her daughter Virginia married a Burney, I will have to look up which one. About 1900 Sarah/Sallie Piner was the proprietress of the Burney House which I have found mentioned in some Bonham history sources, but I would like to know more about it. Perhaps a boarding house or hotel. So I have been interested in the Fannin county Burneys to the extent there may be more information about Sarah Piner. NC) but I've never seen any list of their children. My great great grandfather was William Allen Burney (b. 1825 or 1828).He married Patience Lodemia Albertson (b. 1848) in 1866 (Guilford Co. NC). One of their children, Mary Emma (b.1868) married George Lindsay Kirkman. They are my great grandparents. Does anyone know who the children of John Burney and Lydia Short were? William Allen Burney listed his mother as being Lydia B. 1795 on a document and this is why I'm researching John and Lydia Burney.
