Collins, my great grandmother. Relationship is nephew and niece. None of my elderly family members can recall this name. I do not know if they were children of one of Martha's siblings or of one of her husband's (James S.) siblings. I have some information on James; but very little on Martha (whose maiden name supposedly was Smythe). I was hoping that information on the Burney's might shed light on Martha's ancestors. My Burneys are from Georgia, most likely Chatham county. We believe Sam and Moriah Burney had 10 children. One of the 10 was my GGM, Indiana B (as shown on census records). Indiana married Albert Pierce. I'm pretty sure this is the one, since my GM, Anna and great aunt, Bernice, are listed under them as their children. We seem to get lost after that. There is a lady named, that has great information on Sam and Moriah Burney, but when I asked to share, I was advised to search the census records. Her email is la_raspberry@yahoo.com My GM always state that Sam and Moriah were slaves. We do know that there were a few Burney slave owners around the early to mid 1800's. There seems to be a place where everyone hits a barrier. Around 1870,things get muddled. As far as the native American side, I have been told that Albert was Cherokee, but we have no real information on this. He is reportedly from the Pierces from North! Carolina. Apparently they were exiled to Bloomingdale, GA because of the interracial marriage. I have pictures of the Pierce hx from census, and some other Burney's, but not sure if they are the same line.

I have been told that somewhere a few generations back that we have native american ancestors. I have only been able to go back to 3 Burney brothers named Joseph, Richard, and 'Tootie' (a nickname no doubt), so far I have no information on their parents. Just happened across this thread and am wondering if Moriah/Indiana/Albert might somehow be related.
