BERKHEISER NEWSPAPER TIDBITS FROM THE MESSAGE BOARDS ==================== RECOMMENDATION FOR GENEALOGY RESEARCH If you're ever in the area, the place to go in Indiana is the newly expanded and remodeled Genealogy Center of the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne. I was there last Tuesday for an all-day research trip and I was VERY impressed with the facility. I came away with some interesting tidbits which I'll be sharing here in the future. Rick B ==================== ROBERT "RICK" BERKHEISER RECUPERATING Robert "Rick" Berkheiser is recuperating from surgery at an Extended Care Facility in Pittsburgh. Life Care 225 Penn Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15221 phone 412-247- 2223 He an only receive calls from 10-12 and 5-7:30 PM That is when someone is around to hand him the phone. He and his wife Linda reside in Gibsonia, PA. ==================== FROM THE NEWSPAPERS Rick Berkheiser Carissa R Berkheiser 04/08/2005 PAXINOS RR2 - Carissa Raylin Berkheiser, 18, of Box 98c-1, died Tuesday, April 5, in a motor vehicle accident at Airport Road and Reading Turnpike. Born at Sunbury Community Hospital on Dec. 31, 1986, she was a daughter of Ronald and Brenda (Ritzman) Berkheiser. A student at Southern Columbia Area High School, she was a tutor for the After School Enrichment program, a co-op student for the elementary teachers, and worked at Knoebels Amusement Resort during the summer. Carissa was a four-year varsity cheerleader, and had been a cheerleader since she was 4 years old. A four-time nominee for All-American, she was selected for First Team-All American Cheerleaders. In local competitions she was awarded first place in Top Jumper awards, and selected best cheerleader, most improved and all-around senior cheerleader, while being an academic award-winner. She served as homecoming queen for Southern's 2004-2005 football season. She also played two years on the junior high field hockey team, prom committee for 2004, senior high chorus, American Red Cross and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She was a member of Grace Chapel in Overlook, serving as a Sunday and Bible school teacher. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Christopher P. Berkheiser, currently serving in Iraq, and Jeremy R. Berkheiser, at home; paternal grandparents Ronald L. and Linda L. Berkheiser of Paxinos RR2; a maternal great-grandmother, Peterine Lafferty of Coal Township, and her longtime boyfriend, Nathan Mychak. Occupation: general practice in Shenandoah, Schuylkill Co., PA about 1908. Occupation: surgeon for the P. & R. C.& I. Company in January 1, 1916. Education: the public schools of South Manheim TWP, Schuylkill Co., PA. Education: Keystone State Normal School, at Kutztown, PA. Education: Jefferson Medical College in 1902. Education: Medico-Chirurgical College, Philadelphia, PA; graduated in June of 1906. Education: intern at the Fountain Springs Hospital, Ashland, PA., under Dr. J.C. Biddle until 1908. abt 1912 when Arthur J. was 30, he married Viola May Purnell, daughter of Samuel Purnell & Martha Withers. Born in 1887. Viola May died in 1951, she was 64. Buried in 1951 in Summer Hill Cemetery, S. Manheim TWP, Schuylkill Co., PA. They had the following children: i. Jonathan C., 3C2R. Born in 1913. Jonathan C. died in 1935, he was 22. Buried in 1935 in Summer Hill Cemetery, S. Manheim TWP, Schuylkill Co., PA. His marriage to Jean P. is an educated guess with nothing to back it up at this time. Could possibly be his sister. Jonathan C. married Jean P. ?????. Born in 1915. Jean P. died in 1931, she was 16. Buried in 1931 in Summer Hill Cemetery, S. Manheim TWP, Schuylkill Co., PA. ii. Personal Items. Miss Mamie Booth is visiting in LaPorte. Isaac Ghrist was up from Donaldson, Thursday. Charlie Noyes, of Elkhart, was in town Wednesday. Miss Ella Boyd returned last Saturday from her Ohio visit. Henry Milburn returned last Saturday from his Kansas trip. Jake Heiner has gone north to visit Mr. Higgins, of Bear Lake. Mr. Geo. R. Hudson, of Toledo, spent Sunday and Monday in town. Mr. J. H. Whitsn and daughter, Jeanie, left for Petoskey on Tuesday. Miss Ellan Thorndyke is visiting relatives near Grand Rapids, Mich. Rev. Mr. Fox, of the Evangelical church, spent last week in southern Illinois. Mrs. Frank Wells and infant, of Elkhart, have been visiting friends here this week. A party of fourteen South Bend people picnicked in the Park on the north side last Tuesday. Rev. M. C. Stanley, formerly rector of the Episcopal church, Mishawaka, is now stationed on Mackinaw Island, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. McCorkle, old time residents of Mishawaka, are visiting friends here, and are guests of Mrs. A. B. Richards. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Oliver were visiting in town last Saturday, and Mr. Oliver made the ENTERPRISE a pleasant call. Ed. Henrichs, formerly of Mishawaka, now of Chicago, came over Sunday to visit his father, who is here from the east. L. E. Perkins, General Agent of Midland Freight Line, with his wife have been guests of Mrs. W. H. Judkins, this week. Mr. A. B. Richards has gone to New York to attend a family reunion in that state and enjoy a little vacation from business. Mrs. H. Dodge, Mrs. J. R. Morse and daughter, and Mrs. Mix and daughters, go to Vandalia, Mich., to-morrow, to visit a few days. Dan Burdick has returned from Minneapolis and will again become a resident of Mishawaka. They all come back eventually.
