[Thanks Lynn for making these available to us!---Rick B] ==================== FROM THE NEWSPAPERS Rick Berkheiser Carissa R Berkheiser 04/08/2005 PAXINOS RR2 - Carissa Raylin Berkheiser, 18, of Box 98c-1, died Tuesday, April 5, in a motor vehicle accident at Airport Road and Reading Turnpike. Born at Sunbury Community Hospital on Dec. 31, 1986, she was a daughter of Ronald and Brenda (Ritzman) Berkheiser. A student at Southern Columbia Area High School, she was a tutor for the After School Enrichment program, a co-op student for the elementary teachers, and worked at Knoebels Amusement Resort during the summer. Carissa was a four-year varsity cheerleader, and had been a cheerleader since she was 4 years old. A four-time nominee for All-American, she was selected for First Team-All American Cheerleaders. In local competitions she was awarded first place in Top Jumper awards, and selected best cheerleader, most improved and all-around senior cheerleader, while being an academic award-winner. She served as homecoming queen for Southern's 2004-2005 football season. She also played two years on the junior high field hockey team, prom committee for 2004, senior high chorus, American Red Cross and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She was a member of Grace Chapel in Overlook, serving as a Sunday and Bible school teacher. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Christopher P. Berkheiser, currently serving in Iraq, and Jeremy R. Berkheiser, at home; paternal grandparents Ronald L. and Linda L. Berkheiser of Paxinos RR2; a maternal great-grandmother, Peterine Lafferty of Coal Township, and her longtime boyfriend, Nathan Mychak.
