Please note. This one might belong to another line of Berkheisers. There's a friendly dispute going over this. Rick South Bend, IN 14. JOHAN PETER3 BERKHEISER (PHILIP2, WILLIAM1) was born 9 April 1781 in PA, and died 10 March 1864 in Schuylkill Co. PA. He married MARIA E. "CATHARINA" (RADENBACH) RADABAUGH, daughter of JOHN RADABAUGH and CATHARINE WERNER. She was born 16 January 1781 in Berks Co., PA, and died 7 December 1851 in Schuylkill Co. PA. Notes for JOHAN PETER BERKHEISER: Nicholas' probate records indicate that Catherine's married name was Berkheiser and that her heirs lived in Pennsylvania. Catharine died sometime after her father's will was written (1841) and before he died (1850). St. Paul's Lutheran Church records in Schuylkill County show that Catherine and Peter were sponsors at a baptism in 1835. Memorial History of the Powell Family and Others, by Rev. John Powell (1880), indicates that Catharine's husband's first name was Peter. The 1790 Pennsylvania Census lists just one Berkheiser (saw no other obvious spelling variations), page 30, Berks County, Brunswick and Manheim Twps. - Philip Berkheiser 2-1-4; this is probably the entry for the father of Catharine's husband. Catherine and Peter's children were all baptized at St. Paul's (Summer Hill) Church in what is now Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Catherine's parents were also members of this church. Greetings, List Members: As you know, for the past several years, roll calls have been initiated the list during June and December. Our December roll call is usually the largest because so many people with new computers or new Internet software make their way on to the lists. As part of the roll-call each member is invited (not required) to post a message with a brief synopsis of the ancestors they are researching, including relevant dates, places, etc. to the list. An example would be as follows: Seeking information on the John Jay DOE family. John Jay DOE, born 12/12/1810, Richmond, VA, died 01/01/1901, Austin, Texas Married ( on 04/04/1844 in Long Island, NY) Elizabeth Sue SMITH, born 01/09/1817, Richmond, VA, death date & place unknown (or something along those lines.) Please remember to CHANGE THE SUBJECT of the message when you reply. The subject should read something like: John & Myra Winston DOE Family. (Accurate subjects also help when the messages are archived by rootsweb.com) The roll call will end at midnight on January 1, 2003. All list members are asked to respond to the roll call (should they desire) prior to that time. Roll Calls are conducted twice a year and only on the instruction of the list administrator. This is so the list won't get flooded for roll call requests every time someone new joins the list. Best Wishes & Happy Holidays, Vince Leibowitz List Moderator

Greetings, Listers: It is time once again for our semi-annual roll call. As most you know that have been on the list for at least six months, twice a year I call for a "roll call" so that we may share information about the lines we are working on so that everyone on the list may be made aware of that information, and hopefully find some much-needed links. We had quite a nice response to the last Roll Call, and I'm sure we will this time, too. I just want to take a moment and lay the ground rules: The roll call will run from Sunday, July 7 to Sunday, July 14, 2002. All Roll Call responses should be posted by that time. When posting a roll call message, REPLY/SEND DIRECTLY TO THE LIST, and not to me, the list owner. In the subject line, place the words ROLL CALL and whatever surnames you are working on, or a location you are seeking information on for the surname, etc. Please keep subject lines brief. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me at vpltz@vzinet.com. So, 3....2....1....Let the roll call begin! Vince Leibowitz List Administrator
Am posting my line in accordance with Roll Call. I'm researching the following family from Pennsylvania: Charles BURKHISER/BERKHEISER, b circa 1875 in PA. Married Amelia (Emily) POTTS around 1900. They resided in Plymouth, Luzerne County, PA. Charlie worked in the coal mines. Thank you for your time, Tracy TCAS808108@aol.com
Greetings, one and all! As I have done in years past, I will call for a 'roll call' to coencide with the new year. Doing a roll call after the holidays is usually a perfect time, because there are a lot of folks that get new computers and internet access as holiday presents that have found their way on to the lists. An additional roll call is usually done in June. If you aren't familiar with what a roll call is, it is basically a time when everyone on the list submits to the list the surnames, etc., they are working on, as they relate to the list for which the roll call is called. Also, I ask that everyone follow the following format with roll calls: In the subject line, put something descriptive, for example: DOE, John M. 1818-1900, Missouri & Texas or The DOE family of Hunt County, Texas In the body of the message, include something like this: Seeking infromation on the DOE/SMITH family. John William DOE, b. 1819 Golden, TX, d. 1900 Quinlan, TX. m. Anna Smith, 1870, Tyler, Tx. Be specific, but don't include too much information. Also, remember: do not include information about the living. Also, remember to put your email address on all posts. To post your roll call message, send it directly to the list. Do not reply to this message, as the reply may end up going to me. This Roll Call will run through January 6. Please do not post roll call messages after that time. Thanks a million, and have a happy 2002! Vince Leibowitz vpltz@vzinet.com List owner/moderator

We have: Peter Berghauser, born Feb. 1844 came from Germany in 1869 settled in Scranton Penn. married Gertrude (maiden unknown), born 1848, (she came to US in 1866) here in Penn in 1878 Gertrude had a son from a previous marriage named Frank, who took the Berghauser name. Together Peter and Gertrude had 5 Berghauser children Conrad, 1879 John 1881 William, 1883 Katie, 1885 Selma, 1888 *also lists a Consuela (sp?) but don't know if she is a daughter or D-I-L We know Conrad used the Burkizer spelling and had: Willard Thomas Gaylord Henrietta (Died in Flu epidemic) Gertrude (Died in Flu epidemic) Willard split from the family (feud?) and moved to Chicago, never to contact the family again. Hope I'm not the only one on this list, lol Thanks Missy
Greetings, Listers: I have noticed recently that the number of subscribers for all of the lists I administer has increased by leaps and bounds over the past few weeks. With the holidays over, I know many people have unpacked those new computers and gained access to the World Wide Web and with it, the wonderful world of internet genealogy. So, for you newbies (and old hats), I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share briefly the policies for the lists I administer. My name is Vince Leibowitz, and I am the listowner/administrator for this list, and the ones listed at the bottom of this message. All of these lists are unmoderated, meaning that your posts go directly to the list. Therefore, please observe the following rules (in addition to common courtesy such as no flaming, etc.) 1. Please do not post virus warnings to the list. 2. Please do not post cute forwards, chain letters, etc. of any kind to the list. If in doubt, please email the content in question to me at vpltz@peoplescom.net for review. (for example, twice a year I post a forward called "epidemics through time" to all of my lists because it is useful in genealogy.) 3. Please refrain from sending messages to the list like "wow" or "thanks," when that's all you've got in the message. On a lot of lists, someone will post something interesting and there will be a dozen such messages to follow. Please post messages with useful content that relates to the topic and purpose of the list. 4. Roll Calls are only called by the list owner/administrator. They are conducted from January 1-January 10 and from June 15-30 each year. If you feel the need for a roll call at another time, please contact the list administrator. 5. Please use specific subject lines with your posts. For example, if we were all on a SMITH surname mailing list, and every post had the subject "SMITH" we'd be forever reading posts. So, instead of Smith, try "John and Abagail Barrett Smith" or instead of "History" try "History of Syria" or something similar, depending on the list and subject addressed. 6. HAVE FUN!
