Surnames: Burkhiser Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ImG.2ACIB/3 Message Board Post: I found Charles V. Burkhiser on the census (b. March 1877) in 1900 he was a seminary student in Davenport, Iowa. 1910 he was listed as clergy in Council Bluffs and in 1920 lised as a priest in Defiance, Shelby Co., Iowa. His brother, John E. also became a priest and was living in Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa in 1920. I think both are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamburg, Iowa. On the 1870 census, John & Mary (Idleman) Burkhiser also had a son named Sylvester, born 1869, and they were living in Putnam County, Missouri. Ernest L. Burkhiser lived with his parents, but in 1920 was living with Mary & John HIlger & family; I could not make out if he was single yet or had been married. Hope this is helpful.

    1. Annual Roll Call
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Dear List Members: Every year around this time, I post a call for an annual "roll call." Since so many families get new computers around the holidays and, because the period between December 15 and January 1 usually witnesses the largest growth of lists, this seems the perfect time to do it. So, between now and January 1, please feel free to post your "roll call" post. What is a roll call post? A roll call post is one in which you list the surnames you are researching and brief information about the lines you are seeking information on as they relate to the geographic nature of the list. A sample roll call message should look like this: "Researching the family of John DOE, b. 1837 Sagamon County, Ill, d. December 12, 1900, Rains County, TX. m. Susan JONES, December 1, 1860, Titus County, TX. Allied surnames include JOHNSON, SMITH, JONES, PETERS, ANDREWS." You may also wish to include any other pertinent information such as birtdates, places of burial, siblings, children, other places lived, etc. Essentially, include anything that may be helpful to other researchers to determine if they are related to your line. Also, if you are looking for any specific information like the burial location of someone, you may wish to include that. When posting the message, PLEASE phrase the subject as follows: "ROLL CALL: Researching DOE, JONES & SMITH" or something along those lines. Finally, please do not respond to this message! To post your roll call, please send the message to the list. The address for the list is "listname-l@rootsweb.com" where "listname" is the name of the list. Happy Holidays, Vince Leibowitz List Administrator

    1. [BURKHISER] Semi-Annual Roll Call
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Greetings, List: It is time once again for our twice-a-year Roll Call. As most of you know who have been on the list a while, Roll Calls are conducted once between Christmas and the new year and once after Memorial Day. To participate in the roll call, send a message to the list which meets the following guidelines: 1.) Includes in the subject line the words ROLL CALL and the surname such as: "Roll Call: DOE" 2.) Include in the message a brief synopsis of the information you have on the family as well as any additional information you are seeking. 3.) Include your EMAIL ADDRESS; replies to roll call postings should be done off-list. 4.) Include the URL of your genealogy webpage, if you have one. Please keep your messages short, but include any pertinent information that would help another reader determine whether or not they have information which would pertain to your line. Also, remember that these messages are ARCHIVED through rootsweb, so even if you don't find the information you are looking for now, someone doing a search may find your message later and be able to assist you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. The roll call will run from May 26 until June 2, 2003 at midnight, EST. Please don't post roll call messages after that time. Also, please remember that we do a roll call twice a year and that only the listmanager can call a roll call. This is because, as new members join the group, if each one posted a roll call, that would take up a great deal of the lists' time. Thanks, Vince Leibowitz
